About Learning Communities

Learning communities are a way to get a head start during the freshman year. Participants live and take some classes with other students interested in the same major or theme. Students in learning communities have –

  • Priority registration in key courses in the community
  • Preferred placement in the residence hall linked to the community
  • Field trips and other activities for LC members
  • An average GPA of a 3.0 as a freshmen
  • More likely to return as a sophmore than non-participants
  • Less conduct problems in the residence halls
  • More involved in campus activities
