CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
College of Letters and Sciences
Meeting of October 28, 2010

    PRESENT:  Ellen Davis, Paul House, Pilar Melero, Molly Patterson, Anglea Harlan, David Cartwright, Steve Sahyun, Elizabeth Olson, Paul Adogamhe, Paul Gregory, and Elizabeth Hachten, Chair.

    GUESTS: Larry Neuman - Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal Justice and Peter Hoff - Foreign Languages



      1. The minutes of the September 30, 2010 meeting were approved as distributed on a Davis/House motion.
      2. Announcements: None
      3. Cartwright/House moved to approve the new major, Japanese Studies proposal with authorization to Implement New Program Proposal. Discussion ensued. The approval was tabled on an Olson/Davis motion pending clarification of the proposal (i.e. entry requirements, prerequisite grade requirement clarification, rationales for course, update to four year plan documentation, list of required courses in AR format, and list of milestones). Motion to table passed unanimously.
      4. Harlan/Sahyun moved to receive and record the change in History major new title from Social Studies Broadfield Major (BSE) –History with Social Studies Emphasis to Social Studies Broadfield Major (BSE) – History Emphasis
      5. Old Business:
        1. Foreign Language Subcommittee Report:
          • Chairperson Hachten distributed two handouts: 1) a memorandum; and 2) foreign language placement comparison charts. She also provided a summation of progress made by the Foreign Language Subcommittee and told the Committee that the data would be available online in the near future as the Subcommittee progresses toward proposal submission.       6. The meeting adjourned at 3:30 pm on a House/Gregory motion.
