Meeting of March 17, 2011

    PRESENT:  Ellen Davis, Paul House, Pilar Melero, Angela Harlan, David Cartwright, Elizabeth Olson, Paul Gregory, Ellie Schemenauer, Debra Heiber and David Travis, Acting Chair

    GUEST: Chris Calvert-Minor - Philosophy & Religious Department

    1. The minutes of the March 3, 2011 meeting were approved as distributed on a Cartwright/Davis motion.
    2. Announcements: None
    3. Cartwright/ House moved to approve the following proposals from the Philosophy Department:
      1. New Course PHILSPHY 121 "Truth and the Media."
      2. New Course PHILSPHY 364 "Existentialism."
      3. Change in the Philosophy Minor.
      4. Change in the Philosophy Education Minor. The motion passed unanimously.
    4. Melero/Gregory moved to approve the change in the Race & Ethnic Studies minor. The motion passed unanimously.
    5. Cartwright/ Schemenauer moved to receive and record the number change for the Philosophy course, Critical Issues in Modern Religion FROM RELIGST 201 TO RELIGST 301. The motion passed unanimously.
    6. David Travis announced to the committee that the college is in the process of developing an Environmental Sciences and Studies major which will build off the current Environmental Studies minor. System has given approval for the Entitlement to Plan and has suggested that the Authorization to Implement document be submitted as soon as possible as there are other schools in the system looking at developing an Environmental Studies major. David stated that evidence of university support for this major needs to be included in the above document. He, therefore, asked the committee if the Authorization to Implement document could be submitted to this committee and the UCC for approval. David Cartwright stated that this document has been used in the past.
    7. The meeting adjourned on a House/Harlan motion.
