PRESENT:  Paul House, Emma Kuby (Rep. Molly Patterson), Trudi Witonsky, David Cartwright, Elizabeth Olson, Paul Gregory, Ellie Schemenauer, Jeff Hinrich, Debra Heiber and Elizabeth Hachten Chair

    1. The minutes of the March 17, 2011 meeting were approved as distributed on a Schemenauer/Witonsky motion.
    2. Announcements: None
    3. Cartwright/ House moved to approve the new Political Science course POLISCI 345 "Federalism." There were questions regarding the readings and the writing assignments. The committee wanted more detail on the reading and writing assignments to assure that they were appropriate for a 300 level course. It was suggested that a general discussion be held about the minimum expectations of course content in the 300 level courses. This discussion will be put on a future agenda. The motion passes unanimously with the provision that Larry Anderson would attend the next curriculum committee meeting to clarify these questions.
    4. Kuby/Gregory moved to approve new History course HISTRY 364 "Modern European Women's History." The motion passed unanimously.
    5. Gregory/Witonsky moved to approve the following Sociology proposals: In the agenda the BA and BS proposals were separate proposals as the BS majors were adding a unique requirement of MATH 230 in addition to the other changes that were common to both the BA and the BS Proposals. It was requested that the Unique requirement be deleted for the time being while the staffing impact of this requirement is researched. Therefore the BA and BS proposals have been combined as BA/BS proposals to go forward to the UCC. The motion passed unanimously.
