      3. Change in the Gender and Ethnic Studies Minor The motion passed unanimously.
    7. A draft of the Global Engagement Certificate was presented to the committee by Dr. Hachten for their comments and questions. The purpose of the certificate is to encourage students to be better global citizens. It would be different from other certificates offered in the College of L&S in that it would be portfolio based rather than course based. Students would need to demonstrate how they met the expected outcomes outlined in the certificate in a portfolio format . There is no major or minor offered that would automatically allow a student to receive this certificate. However work that counts in the major or minor if appropriate may be used in the certificate. The questions were who would supervise the certificate and evaluate the portfolios and would a grade or pass/fail be given? Also what would the time frame be for completing the certificate? More research will need to be done before a final version of the certificate can be presented to the committee.
    8. Department expectations for upper level courses was again discussed. While it was felt that departmental guidelines for upper-level course expectations could be helpful, there was agreement that the college should not attempt to create a single standardized set of guidelines as those would not be appropriate for all disciplines. It was suggested that the committee members initiate a discussion regarding this topic in their departments and report next fall.
    9. The meeting adjourned on an Adogamhe/House motion.

    Respectfully Submitted
