Old Business: In reference to the discussion at our last meeting regarding program planning and innovative courses, Molly Patterson described a relatively new course in History intended for new freshmen. The course, HISTRY 255 Freshman Seminar. is not a broad survey course. Instead the course is focused on researching a differenct topic each time it is offered. Examples of topics include "Race In America" (the first topic) or "What Is Racical Reform? The course connects to the goals of Undergraduate Research and is intended to get new students interested in research. It is also seen as a recruiting tool for the History Department. This is just one way to think about teaching and learning innovations
