Welcome UW-Whitewater
Faculty & Staff

Professional development is a very personal, complex process that unfolds over several years. Many variables that influence one’s development as a teacher/scholar—including the students, available technology, understanding of human learning, and the knowledge that defines the disciplines—are constantly evolving. Playing a vital role in the student learning equation requires that faculty stay current, and think broadly about what they should be able to do in the future.

Designed by faculty and academic staff, the Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and
Research Network (LEARN) Center was established on the UW-Whitewater campus in 1998. Its mission is to assist faculty and instructional academic staff in their ongoing efforts to develop and refine their skills as teacher/scholars, and to support academic programs in their efforts to optimize student learning.

The LEARN Center achieves this mission by providing services, programming, and resources that aid in the development of individual instructional improvement plans and their implementation; supporting campus-wide academic assessment initiatives; and fostering scholarly activity—all completed with the purpose of continually improving the quality of educational experiences of UW-W students.

The LEARN Center Advisory Board, made up of faculty and academic instructional staff, serves as a conduit between the colleges and the Center, giving direction to short- and long-term planning and programming.

Since its inception, LEARN Center programming has resulted in more than 5,000 contacts with the university’s approximately 400 faculty and full-time instructional staff, engaging them in more than 13,700 hours of instructional/professional development.

We invite you to take advantage of the Center's many programs, and please let us know how we're doing.
