Merit - Instructional Academic Staff
Merit reviews are conducted on a biennial cycle during the fall term of odd numbered years. Accordingly, the next scheduled merit review will be held during the fall of 2011. That merit review will consider instructional academic staff activities from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2011 and will establish a merit rating for the two-year period, July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013.
Merit pools for instructional academic staff members are separate from faculty merit pools. Merit applications will be evaluated by the department chair and departmental "peers." Please note: the Academic Staff Assembly is working to clarify the definition of "peers" for merit evaluation purposes.
New instructional academic staff recruited during an evaluation year for existing instructional academic staff. New instructional academic staff receive their negotiated salary in their first year of employment. In their second year of employment they will automatically receive merit pay based on a solid performance rating and average merit. New instructional academic staff will receive their first regular two-year-cycle merit review in the fall of their second year of employment. This merit review will be based only on performance data from the instructional academic staff member's first year of employment at UW-Whitewater. Merit based on the evaluation in the second year of employment will be distributed in the third and fourth year of employment. All subsequent reviews will follow the model for existing instructional academic staff.
New instructional academic staff recruited during a non-evaluation year for existing instructional academic staff. New instructional academic staff receive their negotiated salary in their first year of employment. In their second and third year of employment they will automatically receive merit pay based on a solid performance rating and average merit. New instructional academic staff will receive their first regular two-year-cycle merit review in the fall of their third year of employment and that review and all subsequent reviews will follow the model for existing instructional academic staff.
