Promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure
Any probationary faculty member holding the rank of Assistant Professor who is granted tenure is also promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Faculty members hired at the Associate Professor rank of without tenure may be granted tenure without promotion to Professor Personnel Rules, [Section III, C, 2, b and III, C, 2, d, (2)].
Additional information related to tenure decisions is found in the Rules Governing Faculty Appointments under UWS 3, Wisconsin Administrative Code, approved by the Board of Regents on October 5, 1979 and amended February 5, 1981 and April 2, 2004, Section III, C. Please note that, in general, notification and reporting related to tenure decisions uses the same format as used for reappointment decisions.
A mandatory tenure decision must be made for faculty members in their sixth year (including credit for prior service) as a faculty member at UW-Whitewater. This decision will result in either:
- A recommendation that the faculty member be reappointed for the next academic year on a regular probationary basis and advance to tenure (this recommendation will be reported to the Board of Regents for action) or
- A recommendation that the faculty member receive notice that the next academic year will be the terminal year of employment at UW-Whitewater.
