Review, Decision, and Recommendation Timeline for 2011-2012
Note: the following timeline is excerpted from pp. 43-45 of the Rules Governing Faculty Appointments under UWS 3, Wisconsin Administrative Code, as approved by the Board of Regents on April 2, 2004.
First Class Day of the Second Week of Classes
(September 12th)
Second-year, fourth-year, and sixth-year faculty members and third-year and fifth-year faculty members with one-year contracts and faculty members seeking promotion, including promotion to Professor: portfolios for reappointment, tenure, and/or promotion reviews due in department office.
First Friday in October
(October 7th)
Third-year and fifth-year faculty members who received two-year contract in previous review: Portfolios for consultation due in department office.
First Friday in November
(November 4th)
Departments forward all reappointment portfolios and Reports of Decisions to the constituency dean(s).
If a faculty member requested a reconsideration, then upon completion of the reconsideration, based on a positive decision, department forwards the portfolio to the constituency dean. In this case, the Reconsideration Report of Decision shall replace the original Report of Decision in the portfolio.
December 1st
The constituency dean shall place a Report of Recommended Action in the portfolio and forward copies to the faculty members and the department.
Second-year, third-year, and fifth-year faculty reviews: Constituency dean forwards portfolios to the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Rebuttals: Faculty members wishing to file a rebuttal to a Report of Decision or Report of Recommended Action shall deliver rebuttal documents to the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs within three (3) working days after December 1st.
Fourth-year, sixth-year, and promotions faculty reviews: Constituency dean forwards portfolios to the Constituency Standards Committee (CSC).
Rebuttals: Faculty members wishing to file a rebuttal to a Report of Decision or Report of Recommended Action shall deliver rebuttal documents to the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs within five (5) working days after December 1st.
December 1st + six (6) working days
Second-year faculty reviews: Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs places a Report of Recommended Action in the portfolio and sends copies of the report to the faculty member, the department, and the dean. Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs forwards portfolios to the Chancellor.
December 15th
Second-year faculty reviews: Chancellor notifies faculty member of reappointment decisions (UWS 3.09, (1), (a)) and date of the next reappointment review and decision.
Second Friday in January
(January 13, 2012)
The CSC shall have completed preparation of Reports of Recommended Action for the reviewed faculty members.
The CSC shall place the Committee’s report of recommended action in each reviewed faculty member’s portfolio. The CSC shall deliver a copy of the Report of recommended Action to the faculty member and the department. When all reports of decision(s), reports of recommended action, and rebuttals are present in the portfolios, the chair of the CSC shall forward them to the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.Rebuttals: Faculty members wishing to file a rebuttal to a Report of Decision or Report of Recommended Action shall deliver rebuttal documents to the Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs within five (5) working days after the second Friday in January.
Third Friday in January
(January 20, 2012)
First-year faculty consultations: Faculty hired August 24, 2011, shall submit their portfolios to the department. Department chairs must schedule a consultation and give notice of review for these faculty.
First Friday in February
(February 3, 2012)
Third-year, fourth-year, fifth-year, sixth-year, and promotions faculty reviews: The Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs shall prepare a Report of Recommended Action, place a copy of the report in the portfolio, and send a copy of the report to the faculty member and the faculty member’s department, CSC, and dean. The Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs forwards portfolios including all reports of decisions, recommended actions, and rebuttals to the Chancellor for decision.
Rebuttals: Faculty members wishing to file a rebuttal to a Report of Decision or Report of Recommended Action shall deliver rebuttal documents to the Chancellor within five (5) working days after the second Friday in February.
Third Monday in February
(February 20,2012)
First-year faculty consultations: Consultations must be completed.
Fourth Friday in February
(February 24, 2012)
The Chancellor shall prepare a written, standards-based summary of the portfolio review and decision. The Chancellor shall forward a copy of this summary to the faculty member, the department, the CSC, and the dean.
