Regional Engagement: Progress 2010-2012
Goal 2: Identify ways to better foster the reputation and visibility of the UW-Whitewater as a resource to the region.
The College of Business and Economics and the ORSP support efforts that foster entrepreneurship in the community through various Business Centers. UW-W has thirteen campus centers in the region, up from four in 2004, providing global business resource services, information technology support, low-income tax assistance, public policy research, and other vital assistance to the region.
The University has developed materials connecting the Innovation Center and the Whitewater Incubation Program, which features UW-W faculty and students providing high-caliber services and support to early stage business ventures. A recently redesigned website also links the Technology Park and Innovation Center to the UW-W campus as a resource for highly skilled students and graduating professionals. Various publications include the Whitewater Innovation Booklet, the Whitewater Innovation and Technology Park Brochure, and the Innovation Center 2011 Annual Report.
The ORSP allocates funding to support Faculty/Staff Publication Awards that assist faculty/staff and department/colleges in paying publication costs for articles. A strong publication record enhances a university's reputation as a research institution, and demonstrates to the national/international academic community its progress and achievements. These achievements have been highlighted in various publication sources as cited in an ORSP report.
Young Auditorium and the Greenhill Center of the Arts serve as a cultural outreach effort of the University. The Young Auditorium's mission is to serve as a presenting organization for the performing arts and as an educational and cultural center enriching the lives of the campus and regional communities.
The Crossman Gallery exhibits regional, national, and international works of art in an educational setting.
The Theatre/Dance Department in the College of Arts and Communications offers four main stage productions, a main stage dance concert, and a touring children's play, as well as a three-play Summeround season. Facilities include the Barnett Theatre and the Hicklin Studio Theatre.
