INITIATIVE/PROGRAM
1. Continue programming through the Multicultural Education Center aimed at addressing intercultural differences. Encourage the Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and Research Network (LEARN) Center to work with the MEC to co-sponsor these types of events.

2. Continue to sponsor a diversity conference on campus.

3. Set up exchange programs and guest lectureships with faculty/staff from Historically Black and Predominantly Latino colleges and universities.

4. Encourage divisions, colleges, departments, and units to develop plans for learning about intercultural differences.

5. Provide diversity classes and training for all faculty/staff in departments/units.

6. In conjunction with the Office of International Education and Programs, promote student and faculty exchanges to prepare multicultural students for a global economy.

7. Seek increased funding to send a minimum of four faculty/academic staff to the Institute on Race and Ethnicity each year.

ACTUAL OUTCOMES OR EFFECTIVES OF IMPLEMENTATION ACTIVITIES
1. During 1999-2000, the Multicultural Education Center (MEC) sponsored or co-sponsored 23 events, with more than 1,800 individuals in attendance. During 2000-2001, the MEC sponsored or co-sponsored more than 30 events, with more than 2,000 individuals in attendance.

2. A diversity conference was held on campus during 1998-99 and again in 1999-2000.

3. A retention forum was held on campus during 2000-2001. The event was attended by more than 50 individuals, representing faculty, staff, and students.

4. During 1997-98, nineteen multicultural students participated in short-term study abroad. In 1998-99, forty-eight multicultural students participated in short-term study abroad. In 1999-2000, thirty-seven multicultural students participate in short-term study abroad. In 2000-2001, forty-nine multicultural students participated in short-term study abroad.

5. UW-W has sent faculty and staff members each year (2000 and 2001) to the Institute on Race and Ethnicity.

Internal factors influencing program outcomes include funding to support speakers and other activities as well as scheduling logistics.
