Minutes of the April 24, 1998 Meeting
PRESENT: Tom Colwin, George Ferencz, Stuart Glosser, Philip Johns, Katie Kempfer, Michael Longrie, Terry Ostermeier, Larry Schuetz, Jim Stewart, Richard Telfer, Janet Thatcher, Bonnie Trudell, Lance Urven, and John Washbush
ABSENT: Michael Biex, Scott Bradley, Gregory Green, Alvanni Hobbs, and Grant Stobel

Dick Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m.
Tom Colwin moved to approve the agenda. John Washbush seconded the motion and the motion carried.
George Ferencz moved and John Washbush seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the April 3, 1998 meeting. Mike Longrie moved to modify the minutes to expand the explanation of the Letters and Sciences motion regarding developing policies and procedures for distance learning. More details should be provided, indicating the severity of the concern. The motion was seconded by John Washbush and the minutes were approved as amended.
John Washbush made a motion to approve a change in the UW-Whitewater grading system. Janet Thatcher seconded the motion. After much discussion, Mike Longrie moved to refer the issue back to the colleges. George Ferencz seconded the motion, and the motion to refer the issue back to the colleges carried.
At the request of the College of Arts and Communication, the proposal for an Audio Studies Module was removed from the agenda.
Stuart Glosser made a motion to approve the Accounting Department proposal Professional Minor in Business Studies: Accounting Emphasis. John Washbush seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
Bonnie Trudell moved, and Tom Colwin seconded, approval of a new course 110-434(634) The Art of the Book. The motion carried. Next, a motion was made by Terry Ostermeier to approve a change in the BA, BSE, BFA, Art, and Art Education Degree Requirements. The motion, seconded by Stuart Glosser, also carried.
At the request of the College of Letters and Sciences, the following proposals were removed from the agenda: Biology-Cell/Physiology (BA/BS/BSE), Biology Education Emphasis, and 630-360 - both a substantive revision and a credit change.
Lance Urven moved, and Phil Johns seconded, approval of a change in degree for Biology-General (BA/BS/BSE) (with the reference to 630-360 removed) as well as to receive and record the change in requisites for 630-415(615). The motion carried.
The new course proposals 681-101 Beginning Japanese I and 681-102 Beginning Japanese II were approved on a Mike Longrie/Phil Johns motion.
Next, John Washbush move to receive and record the proposals to change the titles of courses 250-306, 250-445, 250-450, 250-455, 250-465, and 250-471. Stuart Glosser seconded the motion and the motion carried. John Washbush then moved to approve the proposal for a change in the Management Department's Production Operations Management submajor. Bonnie Trudell seconded the motion, which also carried.
The new course 820-340(540) Politics of Development was approved on a Phil Johns/Mike Longrie motion. Mike Longrie then moved approval of the proposal to cross list and add as a diversity option course 820-365. Phil Johns seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
The change in number from 614-360 to 614-365 for the course Black Political and Social Thought was received and recorded on a Phil Johns/ Mike Longrie motion.
Terry Ostermeier moved and Tom Colwin seconded the motion to approve a change in the Theatre (BFA) major, and the motion carried. The new course 133-260 Production Stage Management was removed from the agenda at the request of the College of Arts and Communication.
John Washbush moved to receive and record the special courses that had been approved between March 28, 1998 and April 17, 1998 as listed below:

Bonnie Trudell seconded the motion, which also carried.
A spring semester report from the General Education Review Committee was accepted, and the core courses Individual and Society and World of the Arts were approved for another two years on a Phil Johns/John Washbush motion.
John Washbush made a motion to thank the Chair of the General Education Review Committee, Meg Waraczynski, for the fine job that she did throughout the year. Phil Johns seconded the motion which carried.
The meeting adjourned at 3:48 p.m., on a Tom Colwin/John Washbush motion.
