The minutes of the April 25, 1997 meeting were approved on a John Washbush/Tom Colwin motion.

Announcements:

Members were reminded of committee procedures and practices:

    • Meetings are to begin promptly at 2:15 p.m. Because a quorum is required to convene, members are asked to be in L2254 by 2:15 p.m.
    • The new definition of a quorum for the UCC, as passed at the April 9, 1997 faculty meeting was read.
    • The Assistant Vice Chancellor and Registrar, the Assistant Dean for the College of Education, and the Assistant Dean for the College of Letters and Sciences are non-voting, ex-officio members of the UCC. The Associate Vice Chancellor is an ex-officio member (who chooses not to vote). There are four non-voting student members, one from each college.
    • Of the meeting scheduled for the year, one per month will be identified for acting on curriculum proposals. Normally, the other meetings will be reserved for the proactive functions listed in the Committee’s charge. Meetings will be canceled when there is no pressing business.
    • Agenda materials will be delivered on the Monday preceding a Friday meeting (or earlier). It will be assumed that members have read the materials prior to a meeting. "Walk-on" agenda items will be discouraged.
    • Curriculum proposals will be arranged by disciplinary units on the agenda. Whenever there are multiple proposals from a unit, those requiring action will be placed before those to be received and recorded.

It was noted that the UCC is scheduled to meet on April 10, 1998 which is Good Friday. That meeting will be canceled.

UCC schedules, names of committee members, agendas, and minutes can be accessed from the website at http://www.uww.edu/acadaff/ucc/index.html. E-mail will be used as notification of updates to the website.
