UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE Minutes of the January 22, 1999 Meeting  

PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, George Ferencz,  Tommie Jones (for Anthony Hart), Mary Margaret Hosler, Philip Johns, Larry Kenney, Terry Ostermeier, David Remmele, Larry Schuetz, Jodi Hare (for Jim Stewart), Richard Telfer,  Lance Urven, and Greg Green (for Ed Zakrzewski)

ABSENT:    Joseph Greene, Jason Lauer, Michael Longrie, Mark Skidmore, and Michelle Weis

Dick Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

George Ferencz moved to approve the agenda and Tom Colwin seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Phil Johns moved, and Mary Margaret Hosler seconded, approval of both the November 20, 1998 and December 4, 1998 minutes.  The motion carried.

Dick Telfer announced that the UCC Handbook could be found on the web in its entirety (at http://www.uww.edu/acadaff/ucc/handbook.docx).  The forms are for viewing only at this time, however, they are expected to be downloadable or electronic in the near future.

The new courses 200/600-481 Integrated Science Management, 200/600-485 Integrated Science - Business Senior Project, and 200/600-493 Science-Business Internship as well as the new major Science and Business Integrated Major were approved as a package on a Phil Johns/Mary Margaret Hosler motion.

Mary Margaret Hosler moved, and Lance Urven seconded, to receive and record the proposals from the Business Education and Office System Department as a package. The motion to change the requisites for courses 220-348, 220-445, 220-454, 220-493 and change the title and requisites for course 220-245, as well as performing administrative actions for courses 220-255, 220-345, 220-347, 220-354, and 220-365 carried.

The proposal from the Curriculum and Instruction Department to delete course 437-443 (was noted on agenda as 437-433 in error) was received and recorded on a Mary Margaret Hosler/Larry Kenney motion.

The Educational Foundation Department's proposal for a course revision of  422-438(638) was approved on a Larry Kenney/Scott Bradley motion.

Larry Kenney moved, and Greg Green seconded, to approve the deletion (discontinuation) of the Physical Education K-8 Emphasis, Physical Education 7-12 Emphasis, and Physical Education L&S Emphasis within the HPERC Department. The motion carried.

The new course, 680-481(681) Language and Literacy, from the Languages and Literatures Department was approved on a Phil Johns/Terry Ostermeier motion.

George Ferencz move to approve the proposals from the Music Department as a package.  Tom Colwin seconded the motion and the revision of course 150-467(667) Jazz Pedagogy I (listed on the agenda as a new course in error) and the new courses 150-469(669) Jazz Pedagogy II (as opposed to 150-468(668) as originally intended)and 150-475(675) Advanced Jazz Arranging were approved.

Tom Colwin moved to receive and record the special courses that had been approved between
November 13, 1998 through January 14, 1999 as listed below:

Lance Urven seconded the motion, which carried.

After considerable discussion, the proposal to change the "Undergraduate Grading Policy" to include grades A/B and B/Cwas approved on a George Ferencz/David Remmele motion.

The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m. on a Larry Kenney/ Tom Colwin motion.
