UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE Minutes of the November 20, 1998 Meeting

 
PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Mary Margaret Hosler, Philip Johns, Michael Longrie, Terry Ostermeier, David Remmele, Larry Schuetz, Mark Skidmore, Richard Telfer, Meg Waraczynski (for Lance Urven), and Gregory Green (for Ed Zakrzewski)

Dick Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

Terry Ostermeier moved to approve the agenda with two changes.  Item 6b was added to include the Coaching proposals Coaching Minor-Bus/L&S, Coaching Minor-Edu, and the course revision for 448-250 which were removed from the Coaching package at the November 6, 1998 meeting.  Course 880-140 (item 10) was deleted from the agenda. Mark Skidmore seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Mary Margaret Hosler moved approval of the distributed November 6, 1998 minutes, which were slightly revised for clarification.  Phil Johns seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

The new Audio Studies module was approved on a Terry Ostermeier/Tom Colwin motion.

The Biological Sciences Department's proposal for a change in grading for course 630-493 was received and recorded on a Meg Waraczynski/Phil Johns motion.

Scott Bradley moved, and Mary Margaret Hosler seconded, to receive and record the proposal from the Curriculum and Instruction Department for a change in licensure for the B.S. in Education.  A list of affected majors was distributed.  The motion carried.

Tom Colwin moved approval of the change in submajors Coaching Minor-Bus/L&S and Coaching Minor-Edu as well as the course revision for 448-250 Application of Mechanical Principles to Coaching from the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching Department that were tabled at the November 6, 1998 meeting.  David Remmele seconded the motion which carried.

Scott Bradley made a motion to approve the proposal for a change within the Leadership Minor from the Leadership, Military Science Department .  Greg Green seconded the motion. The proposal was tabled for further consultation with the Philosophy Department on a Tom Colwin/Phil Johns motion.

The new course proposal from the Philosophy Department, 782-365 Philosophical and Religious Perspectives on Death and Dying, whichincludes a Humanities General Education Option, was approved on a Meg Waraczynski/Mike Longrie motion.

Phil Johns moved, and Mike Longrie seconded, to receive and record the proposal for a requisite change for the cross-listed course 614/880-470 within the Race and Ethnicity Program and the Sociology  Department. The motion carried.

Phil Johns moved to approve, and receive and record as appropriate, the proposals from the Sociology Department as a package.  Meg Waraczynski seconded the motion and the motion carried.  As a result, the new course 880-301 Sociological Analysis, and the changes in the Social Studies Broadfield Soc I and Soc II (BSE), Sociology (BA and BS), Sociology/Criminal Justice Emphasis (BA and BS), Sociology Education (BSE), and the Sociology Minor were all approved.  Also, requisite changes for 880-410(610), 880-451(651), 880-455(655), 880-459(659), 880-465(665), 880-475(675), 880-476(676), and 880-478(678), and requisite and number change for 880-474 (formally 880-390) were all received and recorded.

Mike Longrie moved to receive and record the special courses that had been approved between October 31, 1998 and November 12, 1998 as listed below:

Phil Johns seconded the motion, which carried.

Tom Colwin then moved to take the Entitlement to Plan for a Major in Multimedia Studies off the table.  Terry Ostermeier seconded the motion, which carried.  The motion on the floor from the November 6, 1998 meeting was to note that "the committee has reviewed this document".  Tom Colwin moved to amend by substitution that "the committee supports the concept of this proposal".  Terry Ostermeier seconded the motion, and after some discussion, the motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 3:20 p.m. on a David Remmele/Greg Green motion.
