UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE Minutes of the December 4, 1998 Meeting

Dick Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

Phil Johns moved to approve the agenda with a change to strike the item 680-481(681) per the Languages and Literatures Department's request. Mike Longrie seconded the motion and the motion carried.

The change in requisite proposal for the college-wide course 900-390 was received and recorded on a Mike Longrie/Phil Johns motion.

Mary Margaret Hosler moved, and Tom Colwin seconded, to receive and record the proposals from the Business Education and Office System Department as a package. The motion to change the requisites for course 220-300 and delete courses 220-244 and 220-355 carried.

The History Department's proposal to change the requisites for course 740-499 was received and recorded on a Meg Waraczynski/Mike Longrie motion.

Mike Longrie moved, and Phil Johns seconded, to approve the new courses 680-236 American Literature II, 680-342(542) American Realism and Naturalism, 680-360 Postwar British Literature (1945-Present), 680-361 American Literature in the Postmodern Age (1945-Present), 680-371 Rhetoric for Writers, 680-401(601) Medieval British Literature, 680-412(612) Seventeenth Century British Literature, 680-479 Creative Nonfiction, and 680-324 Post Colonial Literatures (without the General Education Option), the revision of courses 680-226, 680-347(547), 680-402(602), and 680-414(614), and the change in the English (BA/BS) Major; as well as to receive and record the title and description changes for courses 680-300 and 680-348(548), the title and number changes from: 680-256 World Literature I: Homer-Renaissance to: 680-321 Ancient Western Literature, from: 680-257 World Literature II: Neoclassicism-Present to: 680-322 Modern Western Literature, and from: 680-258 World Literature III: India, China, Japan to: 680-323 Asian Literatures; and the deletion of courses 680-234, 680-349(549), 680-400(600), 480-403(603), 480-406(606), 680-413(613), and 680-486(686). The motion carried.

The new course 782/630-247 Bioethics (excluding the General Education option) was approved on a Phil Johns/Mike Longrie motion.

The meeting adjourned at 2:45 p.m. on a Meg Waraczynski/George Ferencz motion.
