Minutes of the October 8, 1999 Meeting
PRESENT: Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Shannon Duchow, George Ferencz, Phil Johns, Larry Kenney, David Porter (for Marilyn Lavin), Jo Ann Oravec, Terry Ostermeier, David Remmele, Ann Ruff, Jim Stewart, Richard Telfer, Lance Urven, and Larry Schuetz for (Meg Waraczynski)

Dick Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.
Phil Johns moved approval of the agenda, and Lance Urven seconded the motion which carried.
The September 24, 1999 minutes were approved with no objections or corrections.
Dick Telfer announced that the first reading by UW-System of the Science and Business Integrated Major was a success, as was the second reading of the Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology.
Lance Urven moved approval of the new submajor Physical Science Minor within the College of Letters and Sciences. Phil Johns seconded the motion, and the motion carried. The departments involved will work out the location of the minor for the catalog.
The proposal from the Accounting Department for a change in the Accounting Major was approved on a Larry Kenny/Scott Bradley motion.
Phil Johns moved, and Larry Kenney seconded, to approve the Chemistry Department's new course proposal 640-460 Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. The motion carried.
Scott Bradley moved approval of the Communicative Disorders Department's proposal for a change in the Communicative Disorders BA, BS, and BSE. Larry Kenney seconded the motion, and the motion carried. Scott Bradley then moved to receive and record the change in requisites for courses 510-375 and 510-376. Larry Kenney seconded the motion and the motion carried. The proposal for a change the title of course 510-380(580) was received and recorded on a Scott Bradley/Lance Urven motion.
Phil Johns moved, and George Ferencz seconded, to receive and record the following proposals as a package: The deletion of course 490-477(677) from the Counselor Education Department; the change in title of course 490-477(677) from the Curriculum and Instruction Department; and the change in requisites for courses 423-478(678) and 423-481(681) from the Educational Foundations Department. The motion to receive and record all of the proposals as a package carried.
Larry Kenney moved, and Larry Schuetz seconded, to approve the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching Department's new course proposals 442-209 Investigating Community Professions in Physical Education and 442-400(600) Methods of Teaching Physical Education. The motion carried.
The Finance and Business Law Department's proposals for a change in the following majors: Finance, Finance: Financial Planning Emphasis, Finance: Insurance Emphasis, and Finance: Real Estate Emphasis were all approved on a David Porter/David Remmele motion.
Phil Johns moved approval of the Geography and Geology Department's new course proposal 616-492 Field Study in Geology and the change in submajor proposal for the Geology Minor. Larry Schuetz seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
The proposal for a change in the Marketing Major from the Marketing Department was approved on a David Porter/David Remmele motion.
Phil Johns moved approval of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department's proposal for a change in the Mathematics Major (BSE). Larry Schuetz seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
Phil Johns moved, and Larry Schuetz seconded, to approve the new course proposal from the Political Science Department 820-319(519) American Political Parties and Elections and to receive and record the proposal for a change in requisites for course 820-489 (689). Both motions carried.
George Ferencz moved to receive and record the special courses that had been approved between September 18, 1999 and September 29, 1999 as listed below:

Tom Colwin seconded the motion, which carried.
Dick Telfer then distributed the suggested Repackaging of Existing General Education Program document and asked the representatives to bring the issue back to the colleges. Any suggestions are to be addressed at the next UCC meeting.
