Minutes of the November 19, 1999 Meeting

PRESENT:  Tom Colwin, Shannon Duchow, George Ferencz, Greg Green, Melissa Hinderman, Phil Johns, Larry Kenney, Marilyn Lavin, Jo Ann Oravec, Terry Ostermeier, David Remmele, Ann Ruff, Richard Telfer, Larry Schuetz, Lance Urven, and Meg Waraczynski

ABSENT:    Amy Anderson, Scott Bradley, Jim Meyer, and Jim Stewart,

Dick Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

Tom Colwin moved approval of the agenda, and Greg Green seconded the motion which carried.

The October 8, 1999 and October 22, 1999 minutes were approved on a Meg Waraczynski/Phil Johns motion.

Dick Telfer announced that the Integrated Science-Business Major was approved by UW-System.   He also announced that the Faculty Senate did not recomend approval of the UCC's proposal to delegate signature authority for routine approval of curriculum actions to the Faculty Senate Chair.

Terry Ostermeier moved to approve the Communication Department's proposal for a change in submajor for the Speech: Electronic Media Emphasis.  Tom Colwin seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

The new course proposals 442-410 Student Teaching Seminar - Physical Education, 449-411 Directed Teaching Physical Education - Elementary, 449-412 Directed Teaching Physical Education - Middle School, and 449-414  Directed Teaching Physical Education - Secondary from the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching Department were approved on a Larry Kenney/Greg Green motion.

The Finance and Business Law Department's proposal for a change of title from:  Professional Minor in Business Studies/Finance/Real Estate/Insurance Emphasis to: Professional Minor in Business Studies Finance Emphasis was approved on a Marilyn Lavin/George Ferencz motion.

Larry Kenney moved to receive and record the special courses that had been approved between October 14, 1999 and November 10, 1999 as listed below:

Tom Colwin seconded the motion, which carried.

Lance Urven moved to recomend endorsing the Repackaging of the Existing General Education Program. Greg Green seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Marilyn Lavin asked if there were more courses out there that could carry diversity credit as well as general education credit.  Dick Telfer asked that the committee discuss the issue with their respective college committees and discuss their findings at a future meetting.

The meeting adjourned at 2:40 p.m. on a Larry Kenney/George Ferencz motion.
