Minutes of the April 6, 2001 Meeting

PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin,  Larry Schuetz (for Anne Hamilton), Glenn Hayes (for George Ferencz), John Howat, Frank Steckel (for Phil Johns), Larry Kenney, Marilyn Lavin, Alvaro Taveira, Richard Telfer, Sally Vogl-Bauer, and John Washbush

ABSENT:   Melissa Ellis, Jodi Hare, Ann Ruff, Debra Schufletowski, and Stephen Solheim

Richard Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:16 p.m.

Sally Vogl-Bauer moved approval of the April 6, 2001 agenda.  Glenn Hayes seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Glenn Hayes moved, and Larry Schuetz seconded, to approve the March 16, 2001 minutes. The motion carried.

Dick Telfer announced that the subcommittee met regarding web based special courses.  A proposal for suggested guidelines will be prepared for the next UCC meeting.
 

Frank Steckel moved, and Larry Schuetz seconded, approval of  the College of Education's and College of Letters and Sciences' proposal for a change in the General Science Elementary Minor.  The motion carried.

The Communicative Disorders Department's proposals for changes in the Communicative Disorders (BA/BS) and the Communicative Disorders (BSE) were approved on an Alvaro Taveira/Glenn Hayes motion.

 

Larry Schuetz moved to receive and record the History Department's proposals for changes in requisites for courses 740-324 American Indian History and 740-403 History of the American West.  Sally Vogl-Bauer seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Frank Steckel moved, and Glenn Hayes seconded, the approval of the proposal for a new submajor from the Physics Department, Physics Major - Engineering Emphasis.  Dick Telfer spoke to the committee regarding the Physics Department's Audit and Review self-studies report which is several years late.  Without such information, there is no way of knowing whether the department has the resources to offer a new submajor.  Tom Colwin then moved to table the Physics Department's proposal.  Marilyn Lavin seconded the motion.  The motion carried with one no vote, and one abstention recorded.
 

Glenn Hayes moved to receive and record the special courses approved between March 10, 2001 and March 28, 2001 which are as follows:

Larry Schuetz seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
