Minutes of the May 4, 2001 Meeting

PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Anne Hamilton, John Howat, Phil Johns, Marilyn Lavin, Larry Schuetz, Stephen Solheim, Alvaro Taveira, Richard Telfer, Sally Vogl-Bauer, and John Washbush

ABSENT:   Glenn Hayes (for George Ferencz), Cheri Eggert, Melissa Ellis, Jodi Hare, Larry Kenney, Ann Ruff, and Debra Schufletowski

Richard Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

The May 4, 2001 agenda was approved on a Phil Johns/John Washbush motion.

Tom Colwin moved, and Scott Bradley seconded, to approve the April 20, 2001 minutes. The motion carried.
 

Tom Colwin then moved to receive and record the curriculum proposals from the History Department to change the course number and the course requisites for Newton to  the Nuclear Age: History of Western Science Since 1600 from 740-333 to 740-165 and to change in title and requisites for course 740-200 from Historical Analysis in Contemporary Perspective to Historical Methods.  Phil Johns seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Phil Johns moved, and Marilyn Lavin seconded, approval of the three new courses, 760-463 Complex Variables, 760-477 Mathematical Scattering Theory and Applications, and 760-483 Mathematical Waves Propagation Theory and Applications and a new submajor Applied Mathematics of Earth System and Space Sciences Broadfield (Emphasis) from the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department as a package. The motion carried.

Alvaro Taveira moved to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Safety Department for a change in number for course Alcohol and Other Drugs from 460-455/655 to 460-255 as well as to approve the addition of General Education (GI) credit.  After some discussion, the motion carried with one opposed. Alvaro Taveira then moved to receive and record the changes in number and requisites for course Analysis and Design for Safety in Industrial Operations from 462-381 to 462-481.  Tom Colwin seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

 
Dick concluded by thanking the committee for their hard work throughout the year as they addressed some difficult issues.

The next meeting will be September 7, 2001.
