Minutes of the February 22, 2002 Meeting

PRESENT:  Ann Ruff, John Washbush (for James Bronson), Jim Butchart, Dan Edlebeck, George Ferencz, Anne Hamilton, John Howat, Phil Johns, Larry Kenney, Peter Mesner, Jo Ann Oravec, Larry Schuetz, Alvaro Taveira, Richard Telfer,  and Wilfred Tremblay

ABSENT:    Scott Bradley, Sandra Lawrence, Jimmy Meler, and  Eric Updike

Richard Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

Larry Kenney  moved to approve the February 22, 2002 agenda, with a modification that item 5, the proposal from the Curriculum and Instruction Department, be removed.  John Washbush seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

The January 25, 2002 minutes were approved on a John Washbush/Jim Butchart motion.
 

John Washbush moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, approval of the College of Business and Economics' proposal for a change in degree requirements in the BBA.  The motion carried.

The new course Geolgy 307 Dinosaurs from the Geography and Geology Department was approved, including General Education (GM) credit, on a Phil Johns/Pete Mesner motion.

George Ferencz moved, and Alvaro Taveira seconded, to approve the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching  Department's proposal for a change in the Coaching Minor.  The motion carried.

The proposal to change the Management Department's major to Operations Management (formerly  Production Operation Management) was approved on a John Washbush/George Ferencz motion.

Phil Johns moved, and Pete Mesner seconded, to approve the changes in the Women's Studies Major and Women's Studies Minor. The motion carried.
 

George Ferencz moved to receive and record the special courses approved between January 17, 2002 and February 13, 2002 which are as follows:

Jim Butchart seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

It was suggested that a discussion take place with the General Education Review Committee regarding the goals of General Education.  It was also agreed that a subcommittee of Anne Hamilton, Larry Kenney,  Dick Telfer, and John Washbush would meet to discuss general Travel Study course expectations and evaluate the equivalency of the expectations in previously approved travel study offerings.  The subcommittee will report back by the end of the semester.  A similar discussion may be conducted for internships at some point.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m.

Jim Butchart seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
