Minutes of the September 21, 2001 Meeting
PRESENT: James Bronson, Jim Butchart, George Ferencz, Anne Hamilton, John Howat, Phil Johns, Jo Ann Oravec, Larry Schuetz, Stephen Solheim, Alvaro Taveira, Richard Telfer, and Wilfred Tremblay
ABSENT: Scott Bradley, Dan Edlebeck, Larry Kenney, and Ann Ruff

Richard Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m., formally introduced himself, and asked the committee members to introduce themselves.
Steve Solheim moved to approve the September 21, 2001 agenda and Jim Butchart seconded the motion. Alvaro Taveira moved to add to the agenda the change in licensure requirement (to Add CIGENRL 470 to all Education programs) which was tabled at the previous meeting. Steve Solheim seconded the motion to amend, and the motion as amended carried.
Steve Solheim moved, and Alvaro Taveira seconded, approval of the new submajor Biology - Cell/Physiology Honors Emphasis from the Biological Sciences Department. Steve Solheim then moved to amend the proposal to include BIOLOGY 254 as a required course (located under BIOLOGY 253). James Bronson seconded the motion, and the amendment and the main motion as amended carried. The proposal for a new submajor Biology - Ecology/Field Honors Emphasis was approved on a Steve Solheim/Anne Hamilton motion.
John Howat moved approval of the Business Education and Computer and Network Administration Department's proposal for a substantive revision of a course for BSECNA 245. James Bronson seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
The Communication Department's proposal for a change in submajor, Electronic Media, was approved on a Jim Butchart/Alvaro Taveira motion.
James Bronson moved to receive and record all of the Economics Department's proposals as a package with an amendment to change each of the courses to reflect any unrequisites. The courses are as follows: changes in title, number, and requisites for ECON 201 and ECON 202; changes in number and requisites for ECON 359 (was ECON 459); changes in requisites for ECON 213, ECON 341, ECON 353, ECON 354, ECON 356, ECON 360, ECON 401, ECON 402, ECON 406, ECON 413, ECON 431, ECON 437, ECON 438, ECON 442, ECON 445, and ECON 471; and for changes in requisites for ECON 301/501, ECON 302/502, and ECON 404/604. Alvaro Taveira seconded the motion, which carried.
James Bronson moved, and George Ferencz seconded, approval of the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching Department's proposal for a new course PEGNRL 177 Introduction to Martial Arts Weapons. There was some discussion regarding safety issues and as to whether the instructors must be certified. The motion passed with two opposed. The new course PEGNRL 193 Intercollegiate Athletic Participation was approved on a Alvaro Taveira/Jim Butchart motion, with one opposed. The new course PEPROF 714 Best Practices for Teaching Physical Education was placed on the agenda in error, and therefore, was not discussed. The change in submajors Coaching Education Emphasis and Coaching Emphasis for BBA/LS Majors were approved on a George Ferencz/Alvaro Taveira motion, with a suggestion to reword the "AND/OR" requirements for clarity.
Phil Johns moved to receive and record the curriculum proposals from the Political Science Department for changes in requisites for POLISCI 301/501, POLISCI 315/515, POLISCI 316/516, POLISCI 317/517, POLISCI 318/518, POLISCI 319/519, POLISCI 320/520, POLISCI 330/530, POLISCI 344/544, POLISCI 350, POLISCI 351, POLISCI 352, POLISCI 356, POLISCI 357/557, POLISCI 360/560, POLISCI 411/611, POLISCI 412/612, POLISCI 413/613, POLISCI 414/614, POLISCI 415/615, POLISCI 419/619, POLISCI 420/620, POLISCI 421/621, POLISCI 430/630, POLISCI 440/640, POLISCI 446/646, POLISCI 457/657, POLISCI 460/660, POLISCI 461/661, POLISCI 462/662, POLISCI 463/663, POLISCI 471/671, POLISCI 472, POLISCI 490/690, POLISCI 493, and POLISCI 496/696. Anne Hamilton seconded the motion, and the motion carried. Anne Hamilton then moved approval of the changes to the following majors: Political Science B.A./B.S., Political Science B.S.E., Political Science - Broadfield I Emphasis, and Political Science - Broadfield II Emphasis; as well as the changes in the Political Science Minor and the Political Science - Education Emphasis Minor. Steve Solheim seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
George Ferencz moved, and Alvaro Taveira seconded, to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Department for a change in title and grade basis for SFTYGEN 498. The motion carried.
The proposal for changes in credits and contact hours for DANCE 330 from the Theatre and Dance Department was received and recorded on a Jim Butchart/George Ferencz motion.
Steve Solheim moved to receive and record the special courses approved between August 27, 2001 and September 13, 2001 which are as follows:

Jim Butchart seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
A proposal for the wording of the repeat policy has not been finalized and therefore will be discussed at a future meeting.
John Howat moved and Jim Butchart seconded approval for the change in licensure requirements to Add CIGENRL 470 to all Education programs. A concern was raised that two credits would be added to all the licensure programs, and that it was not a DPI requirement. After much discussion, the motion failed on a three to six vote.
The meeting was adjourned on a George Ferencz/John Howat motion.
