Minutes of the November 2, 2001 Meeting
PRESENT: James Bronson, Jim Butchart, George Ferencz, Anne Hamilton, John Howat, Phil Johns, John Zbikowski (for Larry Kenney), Sandra Lawrence, Jo Ann Oravec, Larry Schuetz (for Stephen Solheim), Alvaro Taveira, and Richard Telfer
ABSENT: Scott Bradley, Dan Edlebeck, Jimmy Meler, Ann Ruff, Wilfred Tremblay, and Eric Updike
Richard Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m.
George Ferencz moved to approve the October 5, 2001 agenda. James Bronson seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
Richard Telfer announced that item 9, which was tabled at a meeting last spring, will require a motion to remove it from the table and noted that a chemistry prereq had been added to the proposal. He then announced that two courses that were passed at a previous meeting, MUSC 240 and MUSC 241, were inadvertently designated as General Ed - Humanities and should be listed as General Ed - Art.
The curriculum proposal from the Educational Foundations Department for a change in requisites for EDFOUND 212 Educational Psychology was received and recorded on a George Ferencz/Jim Butchart motion.
Phil Johns moved to receive and record the proposals for changes in requisites for HISTRY 326 History of Contemporary Women from 1800, HISTRY 342 Early Latin America to 1860 and HISTRY 343 Modern Latin America as well as the deletion of course HISTRY 315 Women in American History from the History Department. Larry Schuetz seconded the motion, which carried.
The curriculum proposals from the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department for changes in numbers for Math 148 Mathematics for the Elementary Teacher I (formerly Math 111) and Math 149 Mathematics for the Elementary Teacher II (formerly Math 112) was received and recorded on a Larry Schuetz/Phil Johns motion.
Phil Johns moved approval of the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department's proposal for a new course, including General Education credit, for PHILSPHY 248 Environmental Ethics. Larry Schuetz seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
Phil Johns moved, and Larry Schuetz seconded, the Physics Department's proposal for a new course (including General Education Credit) for PHYSCS 150 From Einstein to Star Trek. After some discussion regarding the title, the motion carried with two abstentions. Phil Johns then moved approval of the proposal for a revision of PHYSCS 489 Physics Senior Seminar. Larry Schuetz seconded the motion, and the motion carried. Larry Kenney moved, and Phil Johns seconded, to remove from the table the proposal for a new submajor Physics Major - Engineering Emphasis. The original motion on March 16, 2001 for approval of the proposal, carried. The change in the Physics Industry Emphasis was approved on a Jim Butchart/Larry Schuetz motion. And finally, Phil Johns moved, and George Ferencz seconded, approval of the proposal for a change in the Physics (BSE) major, which carried.
George Ferencz moved to receive and record the Special Education Department's proposals for changes in requisites for SPECED 426 Vocational Assessment of Students with Special Needs. Alvaro Taveira seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
Jim Butchart moved to receive and record the special courses approved between September 27, 2001 and October 26, 2001 which are as follows:

The committee noted that the courses listed in the Report to Registrar's Office were deleted through the currency of catolog exercise.
