Minutes of the March 21, 2003 Meeting



PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, James Butchart (for Tom Colwin), Cheryl Di Cello, Dan Edlebeck, George Ferencz,  Larry Schuetz (for Phil Johns), Anne Hamilton, Linda Holmes, Mary Margaret Hosler, John Howat, Larry Kenney, Barbara Monfils, Ann Ruff, and Alvaro Taveira

ABSENT:    Kati Altschwager, Tanyi Fuoching, Anthony Gulig, Carmen Pereira, and Wilfred Tremblay

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

Larry Schuetz moved, and Larry Kenney seconded, approval of the March 21, 2003 agenda.  The motion carried.

Larry Schuetz moved, and Mary Margaret Hosler seconded, approval of the January 24, 2003 and February 21, 2003 minutes.  The motion carried.

Larry Kenney moved, and Larry Schuetz seconded, approval of the college-wide proposal for an other curricular action that would Require All Courses (including Field Studies) to Follow Study Guidelines When Traveling Abroad.  Larry Schuetz suggested as a friendly amendment that the proposal note that courses must be approved by the travel offices prior to its listing in the Schedule of Classes.  The motion carried.

The proposal from the College of Business and Economics  for a change in the General Business (BBA) major was approved on a George Ferencz/Mary Margaret Hosler motion.

George Ferencz moved to receive and record the proposals from the Curriculum and Instruction Department  for changes in requisites for  EARLYCHD 320, EARLYCHD 330, ELEMMID 324, ELEMMID 363, ELEMMID 422, ELEMMID 425, READING 360, and READING 361. Scott Bradley seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Larry Kenney moved, and Larry Schuetz seconded, approval of the Curriculum and Instruction Department's proposals for changes in the Elementary Education PreKindergarten-6 Emphasis (BSE) and the Change in English Licensure.  The motion carried.

Larry Schuetz moved, and Larry Kenney seconded, approval of the Curriculum and Instruction and Physics Departments' proposal for change in the General Science Elementary Minor.

Alvaro Taveira  moved to receive and record the proposal from the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching Department for a change in contact hours and repeatability for PEGNRL 490.  Larry Kenney seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Larry Schuetz moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, approval of the History Department's proposals for changes in the History (BSE),  History Minor-Elementary Education Emphasis, History Minor-Secondary Education Emphasis, History with Social Studies Emphasis, and Social Studies with History Emphasis.

The proposal from the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department for a change in the Mathematics Minor, was approved on a Larry Schuetz/Jim Butchart motion.

The proposals from the Social Work Department for a change in the Human Services Foundation Minor and the deletion of a Gerontology Minor were approved on a Larry Kenny/ Larry Schuetz motion.

George Ferencz moved to receive and record the special courses approved between February 13, 2003 and March 12, 2003 as follows:

Jim Butchart seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
