Minutes of the May 9, 2003 Meeting



PRESENT:   Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Cheryl Di Cello, Dan Edlebeck, George Ferencz, Linda Holmes, Mary Margaret Hosler, John Howat, Phil Johns, Larry Kenney, Barbara Monfils, Ann Ruff, and Larry Schuetz, Alvero Taveira

ABSENT:    Tanyi Fuoching, Anthony Gulig, Carmen Pereira, and Wilfred Tremblay

Barb Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:17 p.m.

Alvero Taveira moved, and Scott Bradley seconded, approval of the May 9, 2003 agenda.  The motion carried.

The April 11, 2003 minutes were approved on a Tom Colwin/Mary Margaret Hosler motion.

Tom Colwin moved approval of the Communication Department's proposals for deletions of the Journalism Broadcast Emphasis and Journalism Print Emphasis.  Anne Hamilton seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Phil Johns moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, to receive and record the History Department's proposal for a change in repeatablity for History 498 Independent Study. The motion carried.

Mary Margaret Hosler moved to approve the Integrated Science and Business Program's proposal for a change in the Integrated Science-Business Major. Some discussion took place and the proposal was modified from 27 credits to 30 credits as the Business Requirement.  Phil Johns seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

The proposal from the Philosphy and Religious Studies Department  to add an Exit Interview to the Philosophy Minor, the Philosophy Education Minor, the Liberal Studies major with a minor, and the Liberal Studies major without a minor was approved on a Phil Johns/Anne Hamilton motion.

Phil Johns moved to approve the proposals from the Physics Department for course revisions in PHYSCS 170, PHYSCS 172, and PHYSCS 174.  Anne Hamilton seconded the motion and the motion carried.

The proposal from the Political Science Department for a change in the writing requirement for Public Policy and Administration was approved on an Anne Hamilton/Phil Johns motion.

George Ferencz moved to receive and record the proposals from the Psychology Department for a requiste change in PSYCH 215 Basic Statistical Methods, and approval of the proposals for changes in the Psychology BA/BS major and the Psychology Minor.  James Bronson seconded the motion, and the motion carried.  Note: the remaining Psycology courses were removed pending the College of Educations' approval.

Phil Johns moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, approval of the poposals from the Sociology Department for changes in submajors for Criminal Justice Emphasis (BA/BS) (with change in item 5 in the "to" section of the proposal to remove Sociolgy 276) and Family and Health Studies Minor.  The motion carried.  Note:  Social Studies Broadfield Sociology I Emphasis was also removed pending the College of Educations' approval.

George Ferencz moved to receive and record the special courses approved between April 3, 2003 and April 30, 2003 as follows:

FORNLANG 496 Beginning Arabic I 2037 4/29/03
FORNLANG 496 Beginning Arabic II 2041 4/29/03

Anne Hamilton seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Phil Johns was elected to represent the UCC on the newly established Diversity Committee.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m. on a Anthony Truog/Tom Colwin motion.
