Minutes of the September 20, 2002 Meeting



PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Dan Edlebeck, Anthony Gulig, George Ferencz, Anne Hamilton, Linda Holmes, John Howat, Phil Johns, Barbara Monfils, Larry Schuetz, Alvaro Taveira, and Wilfred Tremblay

ABSENT:  Mary Margaret Hosler, Larry Kenney, and Ann Ruff

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:18 p.m. and began with introductions.

George Ferencz moved, and Tony Gulig seconded, approval of the September 20, 2002 agenda, which carried.

The April 19, 2002 minutes were approved on a Phil Johns/Alvaro Taveira motion.

Phil Johns moved approval of agenda items 4-8 and item 14.  The proposals were as follows: a change in the Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) degree and a change in the General Business Minor from the College of Business and Economics; a change in the Early Childhood Education (BSE) from the College of Education; a change in the Accounting Minor from the Accounting Department; a change in the Business Education (BSE) major and the Business Education - Marketing Education (BSE) and Business Education - Marketing Education Comprehensive (BSE) emphases from the Business Education and Computer Network Administration Department; a change in the Economics Departments' Economics (BA/BS), Economics (BSE), Economics - International Economics Emphasis (BA/BS), Economics - Public Policy Emphasis (BA/BS), Economics Minor - Education Emphasis, Economics Minor - L&S Emphasis, Social Studies Broadfield - Economics I Emphasis (BSE), Social Studies Broadfield - Economics II Emphasis (BSE), as well as receiving and recording a change in requisite for ECON 351/551 Economics of Asia (Emerging Markets); and finally a change in the Public Policy and Administration (BS) from the Political Science Department.  Tony Gulig seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Alvaro Taveira moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, to approve the new course HEALTHED 471/671 Research in Health and Physical Activity and the change in the Health Education Minor from the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching Department.  After some discussion regarding the new course's lack of stated "course requisites", the motion was tabled for clarification as to whether prereqs were required. The Phil Johns/George Ferencz motion for tabling this item carried.

Alvaro Taveira moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, to approve the new History Public History Emphasis (BA/BS) proposal from the History Department.  However, John Howat moved to tabled the motion for a more clear definition of the AR requirements.  Alvaro Taveira seconded the motion, which carried.

The History and Sociology Departments' proposal to add the cross-listing RACEETH 150 Atlantic Historyto HISTRY 150 (including General Education Credit) was approved on a Tony Gulig/Phil Johns motion.

John Howat moved approval of the Marketing Department's proposal for a new submajor, Direct and Internet Marketing Emphasis (BBA) (within the Marketing Major).  Tom Colwin seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

The proposal for a change in the Safety Studies Minor-Occupational Safety Emphasis from the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Department was approved on a Alvaro Taveira/George Ferencz motion.

Phil Johns moved to approve the proposals from the Physics Department for a change in general education designation for PHYSCS 170 Introductory Physics Iand for the changes in the Physics Graduate School Emphasis (BA/BS), the Physics Engineering Emphasis (BA/BS), and the Physics Industrial Emphasis (BA/BS).  Tony Gulig seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

George Ferencz moved to receive and record the special courses approved between April 11, 2002 and August 29, 2002 as follows:
