Minutes of the November 1, 2002 Meeting





PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Tanyi Fuoching, Anthony Gulig, Anne Hamilton, Linda Holmes, Mary Margaret Hosler, John Howat, Larry Kenney, Barbara Monfils, Ann Ruff, and Larry Schuetz

ABSENT:   Dan Edlebeck, George Ferencz, Alvaro Taveira, and Wilfred Tremblay

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

Tony Gulig moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, approval of the November 1, 2002 agenda.  The motion carried.

The October 18, 2002 minutes were approved on a Scott Bradley/Mary Margaret Hosler motion.

Mary Margaret Hosler moved, and Anne Hamilton seconded, to receive and record the proposals from the College of Education for changes in contact hours for EDUINDP 214 Observation and Reflection in Head Start and EDUINDP 216 Reflective Seminar:  Ecology of the Child.  The motion carried.

Phil Johns moved approval of the proposals from the Biological Sciences Department for a new course BIOLOGY 364  Biotechnology Laboratory Methods II; a revision of the course Molecular Biology (From BIOLOGY 463 to BIOLOGY 363); a new submajor Biotechnology Emphasis; and to receive and record the title change for BIOLOGY 254 from Biotechnology Laboratory Methods to Biotechnology Laboratory Methods I as a package .  Tony Gulig seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

The proposals from the Curriculum and Instruction Departments for a new course EARLYCHD 320 Curriculum and Programs: Age 3-8 and for a change in the Elementary Education PreKindergarten - 6  Emphasis (BSE) were approved on a Larry Kenney/Scott Bradley motion.

Phil Johns moved, and Tony Gulig seconded, approval of the Physics Department's proposals for changes in the General Science-Broadfield Physics Emphasis (BSE), General Science-Broadfield Physical Science Emphasis (BSE), and the Physics Education Emphasis Minor.  The motion carried.
 

Mary Margaret Hosler moved to receive and record the special courses approved between September 26, 2002 and October 9, 2002 as follows:

John Howat seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

Lisa Rowland noted that she and Tom Colwin met regarding the curriculum proposal forms.  No additional forms were added, but the words "If you have any questions regarding the forms or procedures, or if you would like consultation before completing any forms, please feel free to contact the Associate Vice Chancellor's Office at x1055. (Note: Failure to complete forms properly may result in the proposal being returned for resubmission.)" were added to the curriculum proposal downloading page at http://www.uww.edu/acadaff/facstaff/curriculum/forms/index.html to assist those that are completing proposals.  In addition, the forms and procedures have been edited for clarity, and the committee was asked to review the forms and procedures to ensure that there is no unnecessary information being requested.  If no comments or concerns are noted by November 8th, a broadcast e-mail will be sent out asking that the revised forms and procedures be used.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:27 p.m. on a Tony Gulig/Anne Hamilton motion.
