Minutes of the December 6, 2002 Meeting



PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Dan Edlebeck, George Ferencz, Anthony Gulig, Phil Johns, Anne Hamilton, Linda Holmes, Mary Margaret Hosler, John Howat, Larry Kenney, Ann Ruff, Larry Schuetz, and Alvaro Taveira

ABSENT:    Tanyi Fuoching, Barbara Monfils, Carmen Pereira, and Wilfred Tremblay

Larry Schuetz called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

Tom Colwin moved, and Tony Gulig seconded, approval of the December 6, 2002 agenda.  The motion carried.

The November 1, 2002 minutes were approved on a Phil Johns/Larry Kenney motion.

Tom Colwin moved, and Tony Gulig seconded, approval of the college-wide proposal for a new course, GENED 291 General Education Travel Study.  The motion carried.

Phil Johns moved to receive and record the proposals from the Biological Sciences Department for changes in requisites for BIOLOGY 390 Biology Colloquium and BIOLOGY 400 Senior Biology Colloquium.  George Ferencz seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

The proposals from the Business Education and Computer Network Administration Department for changes in the Business Education Marketing Education Comprehensive (BSE) and Marketing Education (BSE) were approved on a Mary Margaret Hosler/John Howat motion.

Scott Bradley moved, and Alvaro Taveira seconded, approval of the Communicative Disorders Department's proposal for a revision of a course (including General Education credit), COMDIS 270 Introduction to Communicative Disorders.  The motion carried.

The proposals from the Curriculum and Instruction Department for a new course EARLYCHD 320 Curriculum and Programs: Age 3-8 and for a change in the Elementary Education PreKindergarten - 6  Emphasis (BSE) were approved on a Larry Kenney/Scott Bradley motion.

Tony Gulig moved, and Phil Johns seconded, approval of the History Department's proposals to add Exit Interviews to All History Majors & Major Tracks (Emphases) .  The motion carried.
 

The proposal from the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Department for a change in the Occupational Safety (BS) was approved on a Alvaro Taveira/Scott Bradley motion.

Anne Hamilton moved, and Larry Kenney seconded, approval of the Political Science Department's proposals for changes in the Political Science Major (BSE) major and the Political Science Minor - Education Emphasis.  The motion carried.

The following proposals from the Sociology Department were approved and received and recorded as stated:  Phil Johns moved to received and record the changes in number and requisites for SOCIOLGY 310(510) Sociology of Health & Illness (was SOCIOLGY 410/610), SOCIOLGY 351(551) Social Stratification and Social Inequality (was SOCIOLGY 451/651), and  SOCIOLGY 391(591) Processes and Patterns of Racial-Ethnic Inequality (was SOCIOLGY 459/659).  Mary Margaret Hosler seconded the motion, and the motion carried.  Dan Edlebeck mentioned to the committee that the TIS database and external databases need to be updated every time a number is changed, and that numbers cannot be reused for ten years - he did not, however, object to the proposals.   Phil Johns then moved to receive and record the changes in title for SOCIOLGY 374 Sociology of Police and Courts (was Sociology of Criminal Justice: Police and the Courts) and the SOCIOLGY 378 Sociology of Punishment and Corrections (was Sociology of Criminal Justice: Control and Rehabilitation of the Offender).  Tony Gulig seconded the motion, and the motion carried.  The new course SOCIOLGY 312 Sociology of Sport was approved on a Phil Johns/Tony Gulig motion.  Phil Johns then moved, and Tom Colwin seconded, approval of the changes in the Sociology Major (BA/BS), Criminal Justice Minor, Family and Health Studies Minor, Sociology Minor, and the Sociology: Criminal Justice Emphasis (BA/BS), and the motion carried.

The proposal from the Sociology Department and the Race and Ethnicity Program for a change in number SOCIOLGY/AFRIAMR 392 African American Families (was SOCIOLGY/AFRIAMR 470) was received and recorded on a Phil Johns/Anne Hamilton motion.

Larry Kenney moved, and Alvaro Taveira seconded, to approve the proposal for a change in the Special Education Minor - Non Licensure from the Special Education Department.  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposals from the Theatre Department for a change in repeatability for THEATRE 215 Auditioning
and a change in the Theatre (BFA) were received and recorded and approved (respectively) on a Tom Colwin/George Ferencz motion.
 

Tony Gulig moved to receive and record the special courses approved between October 24, 2002 and November 27, 2002 as follows:
