Minutes of the October 31, 2003 meeting

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m.

Alvaro Taveira moved, and Tony Gulig seconded, the approval of the October 31, 2003 agenda.

The October 3, 2003 minutes were approved on a George Ferencz/Phil Johns motion.

Phil Johns moved to receive and record the following proposals from the Business Education/Computer & Network Administration department:Renaming Department from Business Education/Computer & Network Administration to Information Technology and Business Education; Course Deletions ?BSEDCNA 361 Merchandise Management, BSEDCNA 362 Visual Merchandising,BSEDCNA 363 Retail Sales and Distribution, BSEDCNA 364 Retail Advertising. The motion, seconded by Stuart Glosser, carried.

Alvaro Taveira moved to receive and record, with a second by John Zbikowski, the following proposals from the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching department: Title Change-from PEGNRL 149 Country Western Dance to PEGNRL 149 Beginning Country Western Dance and Requisite Change ? PEGNRL 177 Intro to Martial Arts Weapons. The motion carried.

Alvaro Taveira moved to approve the following proposals from the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health department: Change in Major - Occupational Safety - BSChange in Major - Occupational Safety ? Construction Safety Emphasis ? BSChange in Submajor ? Occupational Safety; and to receive and record Change in Driver Education Licensure Program.  The motion, seconded by John Zbikowski, carried.

The proposals from the Psychology department for Change in Major for Psychology BSE, Psychology Minor for Secondary Education Majors, Social Studies ? Broadfield Psychology I Emphasis ? BSE, and Social Studies ? Broadfield Psychology II Emphasis ? BSE were approved on a Tony Gulig/Anne Hamilton motion.

Phil Johns moved to approve the proposal from the Social Work department for a new course, SOCWORK 330 Legal Issues in Social Work Practice.  The motion, with a second by Stuart Glosser, carried.

Tony Gulig moved to approve, with a second by Stuart Glosser, the following proposals from the Sociology department:  New Course ? SOCIOLGY 315 Sociology of Disability and Change in Major ? Social Studies ? Broadfield Sociology I Emphasis ? BSE.  The motion carried.

Phil Johns moved to receive and record the special courses approved between September 24, 2003 and October 22, 2003 as follows:

Chris Henige seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
The discussion on internships was tabled until November when the College of Business & Economics Curriculum Committee has had a chance to meet.  At the next meeting the members will be able to provide feedback from their colleges.
Under other business, Tony Gulig initiated the discussion of the completion of curricular action forms regarding Currency of Bulletin? who is responsible for completing and submitting them, is the from and to section necessary to delete a course.  Dr. Monfils indicated that a committee is working on streamlining the forms.  Jodi Hare recommended that the committee pilot these forms before approving them.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:05 p.m. on a Tony Gulig/Alvaro Taveira motion.
