The motion was seconded by Larry Schuetz.  The motion carried.

The committee discussed the credit resolution language for the awarding of credit.  Phil Johns moved to accept the statement prepared by Larry Schuetz. The motion was seconded by Anne Hamilton. There was further discussion regarding a few minor changes to the language in this statement.  The revised statement is as follows:

"The UW System standard for work per unit (credit) is that the students are expected to invest at least 3 hours of combined in-class and out-of-class work per week for each academic unit (credit) of coursework;  thus, a 3-credit course will typically require a minimum of 9 hours of work per week (144 hours/semester)."

Anne Hamilton moved to approve the revised motion with a second by Simone DeVore.  The motion carried.  The committee recommended putting this statement in the Schedule of Classes, the Catalog, and the Student Handbook.  Dan Edlebeck will determine where this statement will appear in these publications.

Larry Schuetz mentioned an issue that was discussed in the College of Letters and Sciences regarding referencing the bibliography at the end of a syllabus.  The question was raised as to whether the asterisk is still needed on the bibliography for items that are in the library since there is now interlibrary loan, electronic reserve, and access to resources via the Internet. Stuart Glosser moved to eliminate the requirement of using the asterisk in the bibliography to reference materials available in the library.  The motion was seconded by Larry Schuetz.  The motion carried.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m on an Anne Hamilton/Stuart Glosser motion.

Respectfully submitted,

Leslie Meyer
