Minutes of the May 6, 2005 meeting


PRESENT:  Scott Bradley, James Bronson, David Cartwright, Simone DeVore, Dan Edlebeck, George Ferencz, Stuart Glosser, Anne Hamilton, Phil Johns, Barbara Monfils,  Larry Schuetz, Wilfred Tremblay, and Sam Zhao

ABSENT:   Jeremy Frenz, Chris Henige, Larry Kenney, Jeremy Klingbeil, Ann Ruff, Ann Tourbier, and Dave Wilder

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15p.m.

The May 6, 2005  agenda was approved on a David Cartwright/Sam Zhao motion.

Simone DeVore moved and George Ferencz seconded the approval of the April 15, 2005 minutes.  Motion carried.

Barbara Monfils announced that the curriculum proposal for Geography minor with Elementary Emphasis was removed per request by Carol Rosen, the proposer.

Adrian Sherman presented a proposal for a tiered system of travel study as a point of discussion.

George Ferencz moved with a second by Phil Johns to receive and record the following curriculum proposals from the Biological Sciences Department for requisite changes for BIOLOGY 142 Biology II Animal Focus, BIOLOGY 200 Writing in Biology, BIOLOGY 251 Introduction to Genetics, BIOLOGY 253 Introduction to Cell Biology, BIOLOGY 254 Biotechnology Laboratory Methods I.  The motion carried.
 
 

For the curriculum proposals from the Communication Department, George Ferencz moved to approve the following new course, SPEECH 293 Audio Practicum; and toreceive and record the following description and repeatability changes:  JOURNLSM 493A Internship in Advertising, SPEECH 493C Internship in Communication, and SPEECH 493I Public Relations Internship pending repeatability clarification and the following writing proficiency milestone requirements Journalism major - Advertising Emphasis, Journalism major - Broadcast Journalism Emphasis, Journalism major - Print Journalism Emphasis. David Cartwright seconded the motionThe motion carried.

Wilfred Tremblay moved with a second by James Bronson to receive and record the following curriculum propsoals from the Educational Foundations Department for course revision, description change, title change, and grade basis from:  EDFNDPRC 210 Observation and Participation to: EDFNDPRC 210 Introduction to Education and Teaching and description change and title change from:  EDFOUND 243 Education in a Pluralistic Society to: EDFOUND 243 Foundations of Education in a Pluralistic Society.  The motion carried.

For the curriculum proposal from the Geography and Geology Department,  Simone DeVore moved to receive and record the description change and general education option for GEOLOGY 301 Environmental Geology with a second by Anne Hamilton.   The motion carried.

Anne Hamilton moved to approve the curriculum proposals from the History Department for a new course HISTRY 422/622 Great Trials in History, change in major History major change in submajor Public History Emphasis and change in minor History minor and Public History minor;  and to receive and record course deletions for : HISTRY 335 Virtual History: Working with Computers and History, HISTRY 360 Comparative Intellectual History:  European and Asian Thought, HISTRY 380/580 Germany and Central Europe to 1815, HISTRY 381/581 Modern Germany, HISTRY 401/601 Diplomatic History of the United States Since 1898.  Phil Johns seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Stuart Glosser moved with a second by James Bronson to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Management Department Department for a title change from:  MANGEMNT 460 Computer Integrated Manufacturing to: MANGEMNT 460 Computer Integrated Operations and Project Management .  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposals from the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department for a change in major for Liberal Studies Major with Minor (BA/BS) and Liberal Studies Major with No Minor (BA/BS)were approved on a David Cartwright/Phil Johns motion.

For the curriculum proposals from the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Department, Phil Johns moved to approve new submajor Sociology: Comparative Studies Emphasis, change in submajor Criminal Justice Emphasis (BA/BS), change in minor Sociology minor, Criminal Justice minor,(BA/BS), Family and Health Studies minor and to receive and record the General Education Option for ANTHROPL 220 Tombs, Temples and Buried Treasure: Introduction to Archaeology.  David Cartwright seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposal from the Theatre/Dance Department for an exit interview milestone was received and recorded on a David Cartwright/Wilfred Tremblay motion.

The special courses approved between 4/9/05 through 4/29/05 were received and recorded on a David Cartwright/Phil Johns motion.
