Minutes of the November 12, 2004 meeting


PRESENT:  Scott Bradley,  David Cartwright, Jessica Cole for Dan Edlebeck, Simone DeVore, Stuart Glosser, Anne Hamilton, Chris Henige, Phil Johns, Larry Kenney, Ann Ruff, Larry Schuetz, and John Washbush for James Bronson.
 
ABSENT:   Heather Bonnet, George Ferencz, Barbara Monfils, Ann Tourbier, Wilfred Tremblay, Dave Wilder and Sam Zhao

 

Larry Schuetz, presiding as chair in Barbara Monfils' absence, called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.
 

The November 12, 2004 agenda was approved on a Stuart Glosser/Scott Bradley motion.
 
 
David Cartwright moved and Simone DeVore seconded the approval of the October 15, 2004 minutes.  Motion carried.
 
 
Chris Henige moved with a second by Anne Hamilton to approve the proposal from the Communications Department for the new courses,  ACINP 487 Senior Multimedia Project.  There was a question regarding "over load" and what the budgetary impact would be.  Chris Henige withdrew the first motion.  David Cartwright moved that the proposal be returned to the College of Arts and Communication for clarification on the budgetary impact.  The motion was seconded by Simone DeVore.  The motion carried.
 
Stuart Glosser moved to approve the new course, MANGEMNT 366 Social Responsibility, to receive and record the course deletion for MANGEMNT 385 Managing the Small Business,, and to approve the change in major - BBA General Management and the change in submajor - Professional Minor in Business - Management General from the Management Department.  Larry Kenney seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The proposal from the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Department for a course revision, description change, title change from SAFETY 453 Legal Aspects in SafetytoSAFETY 453 Legal Aspects in Environmental Health & Safetywas received and recorded on a Larry Kenney/Scott Bradley motion.

Larry Schuetz indicated to the committee that course revisions should include the current syllabus and the revised syllabus.  He also mentioned that if a department makes significant changes to a course, it may be better to delete the course and create a new one.  When creating a new course, the department should request the new course number from the Registrar's Office.  Larry stated that the course number of a deleted course may not be used again fro 10 years.
 

The proposal for a new submajor: Certificate Program - Lobbying Certificate from the Political Science Department was approved on an Anne Hamilton/Phil Johns motion.
 
 
Phil Johns moved to approve the proposal from the Sociology Department for a new course, SOCIOLGY 371 Sociology of Homocide, with the addition of "prerequisite Sociology 276"  under "course requisite" section of the proposal  The motion was seconded by David Cartwright.  Motion carried.
 
 
The special courses approved between 10/9/04 through 11/11/04 were received and recorded on a Stuart Glosser/Phil Johns motion.
