Minutes of the April 7, 2006 meeting

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.
The April 7, 2006 agenda was approved on a Tom Colwin/Simone DeVore motion.
George Ferencz moved and Praveen Parboteeah seconded the approval of the March 17, 2006 minutes. Motion carried.
Wilfred Tremblay moved with a second by Sam Zhao to approve the curriculum proposals from the College of Arts & Communication for new submajor: Multimedia Digital Arts: Arts and Multimedia Digital Arts: Communication. The motion carried.
John Chenoweth moved to approve the curriculum proposals from the College of Business & Economics for a new course: BEINDP 210 Business Topicsand change in submajor:General Business International Emphasis. San Zhao seconded the motion. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the Chemistry Department, George Ferencz moved to receive and record, the course revision, description, contact hour, requisite change and add cross-listing for CHEM 456 Biochemistryand to approve the change in degree: Chemistry: Professional ACS Approved with a second by Ellen Davis. The motion carried.
Wilfred Tremblay moved to receive and record the curriculum proposals from the Communication Department for other curricular action: change milestone title from: Exit Interview to: Communication Department Exit Survey and requisite change - JOURNLSM 244 News Gathering. Praveen Parboteeah seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Simone DeVore moved with a second by Sam Zhao to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Communicative Disorders Department for other administrative action for department title change: from: Communicative Disorders to: Communication Sciences and Disorders. The motion carried.
The curriculum proposal from the Curriculum & Instruction Department for other curricular action for Island Program in London, England for elementary education was received and recorded on a John Chenoweth/Ellen Davis motion.
For the curriculum proposals from the Economics Department, John Chenoweth moved with a second by Sam Zhao to receive and record requisite change for ECON 201 Principles of Microeconomics, ECON 301 Intermediate Microeconomic Analysis, ECON 302 Intermediate Macroeconomic Analysis,ECON 345 Business Statistics II, and to approve the change in major: Economics BBA, change in submajor: International Economics Emphasis (BA/BS), and change in minor: Economics Education Emphasis. The motion carried.
George Ferencz moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching Dpartment for change in minor: Health Education Minor. Praveen Parboteeah seconded the motion. The motion carried pending receipt of the consultation page. (consultation page was received on 4/10/06)
For the curriculum proposal from the History Department, John Chenoweth moved to approve with George Savage seconding the motion for title change & description change from: GENED 120 U.S. Experience in a World Contextto: GENED 120 Historical Perspectives. There was discussion on the impact of the title change and description change. Tom Colwin moved to amend the motion and recommended that this proposal be tabled until additional information is available. Wilfred Tremblay seconded this motion. The motion carried.
Ellen Davis with a second by Praveen Parboteeah moved to approve the following curriculum proposals from the Languages and Literatures Department for new courses: ENGLISH 230 Foundations of Professional Writing and Editing, ENGLISH 330 Manuscript Editing, ENGLISH 332 Writing for the Web, ENGLISH 430 Book Editing, ENGLISH 436 Topics in Technical Writing; new submajor Professional Writing and Book Publishing; new minor Professional Writing and Book Publishing; certificate program Professional Writing and Book Publishing. The motion carried.
Praveen Parboteeah moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the Management Department for course title and description change from: MANGEMENT 456 Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management to: MANGEMNT 456 Supply Chain Management and International Sourcing. John Chenoweth seconded the motion. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the Music Department, George Ferencz moved to approve the new courses: MUSC 462 Advanced Music Compositionand MUSC 347 String Pedagogy. Praveen Parboteeah seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Ellen Davis moved to approve with a second by Simone DeVore the curriculum proposals from the Political Science Department for the new courses: POLISCI 266 Asian Americans in U.S. Politics(pending approval from the GENED and Diversity committees for a GENED option and a diversity option ) and POLISCI 418 Legal Research and Writing; change in major: International & Area Studies: Approved Course List (Asia); change in minor: International Studies Minor. The motion carried.
The curriculum proposals from the Sociology/Anthropology/Criminal Justice Department for new courses ANTHROPL 365 Precolumbian Civilizations, SOCIOLGY 426 Minorities & the Criminal Justice System(pending the approval from the Diversity committee for a diversity option), and SOCIOLGY 430 Racial & Ethnic Equality: Beyond the Classroomand change in minor: Asian Studies minor were approved on an Ellen Davis/Tom Colwin motion.
Simone DeVore moved to approve the curriculum proposals from the Special Education Department for new submajor: Special Education Minor (Non Licensure) for Non-Education Majors and change in minor: Special Education Minor (Non Licensure). Sam Zhao seconded the motion. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the Theatre Department, Tom Colwin moved to approve the following: new course THEATRE 310 Practicum Development and to receive and record course credit changes for THEATRE 301 Production Practicum: Acting, THEATRE 302 Production Practicum: Stage Manager, THEATRE 304 Production Practicum:Scenery, THEATRE 305 Production Practicum: Lighting, THEATRE 306 Production Practicum: Costumes, THEATRE 308 Production Practicum: Sound, THEATRE 309 Production Practicum: Theatre Management, THEATRE 312 Production Practicum: Directing. The motion was seconded by George Ferencz. The motion carried.
The special courses approved between 03/10/06 through 03/31/06 were received and recorded on a Tom Colwin/Praveen Parboteeah motion.
