Minutes of the September 23, 2005 meeting

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.
The September 23, 2005 agenda was approved on a George Ferencz/Wilfred Tremblay motion.
Praveen Parboteeah moved and Sam Zhao seconded the approval of the May 6, 2005 minutes. Motion carried.
Sam Zhao moved with a second by Simone DeVore to receive and record the following curriculum proposals from the Accounting Department for course deletions for ACCOUNT 458 Advanced Managerial Accountingand ACCOUNT 459 Special Financial Accounting Topics. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the Art Department, Wilfred Tremblay moved to approve the following: Other Curricular Action for Change in Art Department Stipulations in Catalog, New Stipulation for the BFA Art Degrees , New Stipulations for the BA and BSE Art Degrees, New Art Department Foundations Portfolio Review Stipulations; Change in Major- Art (BA), Art Graphic Design Emphasis (BA)- (for AR only), Art Licensure Emphasis (BA)-(for AR only), Fine Arts Emphasis (BFA)- (for AR only), Fine Arts Graphic Design Emphasis, Fine Arts Licensure Emphasis (BFA), Multimedia Digital Arts (BA/BS), Art Education (BSE)- (for AR only); Change in Minor- Art Studio Emphasis- (for AR only) and Multimedia Design; Change in Major- Milestones (for AR only) ART (BA), Art Graphic Design Emphasis (BA), Art Licensure Emphasis (BA), Fine Arts Emphasis (BFA), Fine Arts Graphic Design Emphasis (BFA), Fine Arts Licensure Emphasis (BFA), Art Education (BSE);and toreceive and record the following Number Change from: ARTSTDIO 387 Computer Graphics for the Artist to: ARTSTDIO 287 Computer Graphics for the Artist and the Title Change from: ARTHIST 312//512 History of Medieval Artto: ARTHIST 312/512 Medieval Art in the West. Praveen Parboteeah seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Praveen Parboteeah moved with a second by Sam Zhao to approve the following curriculum proposals from the College of Business and Economics for Change in Degree- Bachelor of Business Administration, and Change in Submajor- General Business; and to receive and record Other Administrative Action- Change in Admission Requirements. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the Communication Department, Tom Colwin moved to approve the module in Andean Studies and Change in Submajor- Journalism Broadcast Emphasis (BA/BS) and Electronic Media (BA/BS) and to receive and record the Requisite Change for SPEECH/JOURNLSM 270 Multimedia Production I and SPEECH/JOURNLSM 271 Multimedia Production II and the Course Deletion for SPEECH 434 Broadcast Operations and Procedureswith a second by Lauren Smith. The motion carried.
George Ferencz moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the Curriculum & Instruction Department for a Change in Major- Social Studies- Broadfield Psychology I Emphasis (BSE). Sam Zhao seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Simone DeVore moved with a second by Tom Colwin to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Educational Foundations Department to add the General Education Option to EDFOUND 230 Introduction to Human Development. The motion carried.
The curriculum proposals from the History Department for a Change in Major - History Secondary Education (BSE) and History with Social Studies Emphasis (BSE)and a Change in Minor- History Elementary Education minor and History Secondary Education minor were approved on a David Cartwright/Lauren Smith motion.
For the curriculum proposal from the Information Technology/Business Education Department, John Chenoweth moved to receive and record the Requisite Change for ITBE 388 Career Information. Sam Zhao seconded the motion. The motion carried.
David Cartwright moved with a second by Lauren Smith to approive the following curriculum proposals from the Department of Languages and Literatures for New Courses- FORNLANG 111 Beginning Arabic I, FORNLANG 112 Beginning Arabic II, FORNLANG 202 Intermediate Japanese II, FORNLANG 203 Intermediate Japanese III, FORNLANG 211 Intermediate Arabic I, and FORNLANG 212 Intermediate Arabic II. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposal from the Management Department, Praveen Parboteeah moved to approve the Change in Submajor- Operations Management Minor. Wilfred Tremblay seconded the motion. The motion carried.
George Ferencz moved with a second by Simone DeVore to approve the following curriculum propsoals from the Music Department for Change in Degree- Bachelor of Music: All Emphases, Deletion of a Submajor- BM Music Performance, and New Submajor- BM Music Major- Instrumental Performance Emphasis, BM Music Major- Keyboard Performance Emphasis, and BM Music Major- Vocal Performance Emphasis. The motion carried.
Tom Colwin moved to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Occupational & Environmental Safety & Health Department for a Description Change, Contact Hour or Credit Change, Requisite Change for SAFETY 498 Independent Study. Praveen Parboteeah seconded the motion. The motion carried.
The curriculum proposals from the Political Science Department for a Change in Major- Public Policy and Administration (BS)and a Change in Minor- Public Administration minor and Political Science minor were approved on a David Cartwright/George Ferencz motion.
Lauren Smith moved to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Race and Ethnic Cultures Department to add cross-listing from: AFRIAMR 141 Modern Black American History to: AFRIAMR/HISTRY 141 Modern Black American History . John Chenoweth seconded the motion. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the Sociology Department, David Cartwright moved to approve the Change in Major- Sociology (BSE) and Change in Submajor- Social Studies- Broadfield Major Sociology Option I Emphasis (BSE) and Social Studies- Broadfield Sociology II Emphasis (BSE). George Ferencz seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Lauren Smith moved with a second by Praveen Parboteeah to receive and record the curriculum proposals from the Women?s Studies Department for a Number Change and add cross listing from: WOMENST 360 Women, Science and Societyto: WOMENST/HISTRY 365 Women, Science and Societyand to approve the Other Curricular Action to remove ANTHROPL 694 from Approved Women?s Studies Courses.. The motion carried.
The special courses approved between 4/29/05 through 9/16/05 were received and recorded on a Wilfred Tremblay/Tom Colwin motion.

Barbara Monfils asked for a nomination/volunteer to represent the UCC on the Diversity Committee to replace Phil Johns, the former representative from UCC. The committee elected Lauren Smith to be the new UCC representative on the Diversity Committee with George Ferencz as the alternate representative.
Barbara Monfils reviewed the Gen Ed approval process for proposals with a Gen Ed option. These proposals must be approved by the General Education committee before coming to the UCC for approval.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:50 p.m on a Wilfred Tremblay/Tom Colwin motion.
