Minutes of the October 20, 2006 meeting

 

PRESENT: Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Rita Czaja, Ellen Davis, Simone DeVore, Jolly Emrey, George Ferencz, Jodi Hare representing Dan Edlebeck, Barbara Monfils, Amy Schumacher,  Lila Waldman, S.A. Welch representing Barbara Penington, and Linda Yu

ABSENT:  Liz Hachten, Katy Heyning, Paul Sanchez, Lauren Smith, and Becky Wintermute,

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

The October 20, 2006 agenda was approved on a Jolly Emrey/Lila Waldman motion.

George Ferencz moved and Jolly Emrey seconded the approval of the September 22, 2006 minutes.  Motion carried.

George Ferencz moved with a second by Rita Czaja to receive and record the curriculum proposal for other administrative action to make corrections to pre-business advising report and to approve the curriculum proposal for a change in major - General Business from the College of Business and Economics. The motion carried.

For the curriculum proposals from the Communication Department, Tom Colwin moved with a second by Jolly Emrey to receive and record the following:  other curricular action to implement GPA requirement, title change from:  SPEECH 110 Fundamentals of Speechto:  SPEECH 110 Intro to Human Communication, requisite change - SPEECH 424 Cross-Cultural Communication, title and requisite change from:  JOURNLSM 251 School Publications to:  JOURNLSM 251 School Publications: Editorial.  The motion carried.

Simone DeVore with a second by Scott Bradleey moved to receive and record the following curriculum proposals from the Curriculum and Instruction Department: requisite change - PEFIELD 411 Directed Teaching - Physical Education Elementary, PEFIELD 412 Directed Teaching - Physical Education Middle, and PEFIELD 414 Directed Teaching - Physical Education Secondary.  The motion carried.

For the curriculum proposals from Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching Department, Tom Colwin moved to approve the change in minor - Coaching Education Emphasis and Coaching Emphasis for BBA/L&S majors and to receive and record the requisite change for HEALTHED 382 Elementary Health EducationSimone DeVore seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposals from the Department of Information Technology and Business Education for a new course - ITBE 385 Project Management:  Methodologies, Techniques & Toolsand for a change in major - Information Technology Infrastructure were passed on a Rita Czaja/Jolly Emrey motion.

Ellen Davis moved to approve the proposal from the Mathematical & Computer Sciences Department for a new submajor - Actuarial Mathematics minor.  George Ferencz seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Lila Waldman moved to approve with a second by Linda Yu the following curriculum proposals from the Occupational and Environmental Safety & Health Department:  new course - SAFETY 493 Air Pollution Evaluation & Control, new submajor - Environmental Management Emphasis (BS), new minor - Environmental Management, change in major - Occupational Safety, Occupational Safety - Construction Safety Emphasis, Occupational Safety - Occupational Ergonomics Emphasis.  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposal from the Political Science Department for a new course - POLISCI 147 World Affairs Seminar was approved on an Ellen Davis/Lila Waldman motion.

For the curriculum proposals from the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Department, Ellen Davis approved with a second by Amy Schumacher the following:  new course - SOCIOLGY 373 Sociology of Terrorism, change in major - Sociology (BA/BS), Sociology Comparative Studies Emphasis, Sociology Criminal Justice Emphasis and change in minor - Forensic Science Criminal Justice.  The motion carried.

The special courses approved between 09/16/06 through 10/04/06 were received and recorded on a Tom Colwin/Linda Yu motion.
