Minutes of the September 7, 2007 meeting
PRESENT: Marshall Anderson, Ray Baus, Scott Bradley, Kirsten Crossgrove representing Ellen Davis, Rita Czaja, Simone DeVore, Dan Edlebeck, Jolly Emrey, George Ferencz, Stuart Glosser, Stephanie Miller, Jim Molloy, Barbara Monfils, and Jeff Zimmerman
ABSENT: Carol Elsen, Liz Hachten, Katy Heyning, Nicholas Santilli, and Becky Wintermute

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.
The September 7, 2007 agenda was approved on a Stuart Glosser/Simone DeVore motion.
Rita Czaja moved and Jolly Emrey seconded the approval of the April 13, 2007 minutes. Motion carried.
Dr. Monfils welcomed the returning members as well as the new members of the committee. She had everyone introduce himself/herself.
George Ferencz moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the Colleges of Business & Economics and Letters & Sciences for change in major – Integrated Science – Business (BBA). Jim Molloy seconded the motion. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the College of Education, Simone DeVore moved with a second by Marshall Anderson to approve the grade basis change and receive and record the requisite change for the following courses: EDUINDP 461 Directed Teaching C: ECSE; EDUINDP 462 Directed Teaching D: Kindergarten; and EDUINDP 463 Directed Teaching E: Primary. The motion carried.
The curriculum proposals from the Biology and Curriculum & Instruction Departments to delete the following majors – General Science – Broadfield Biology emphasis, General Science – Broadfield Chemistry emphasis, General Science – Broadfield Earth Science emphasis, General Science – Broadfield Physical Science emphasis, General Science – Broadfield Physics emphasis, and General Science – Broadfield major- were approved on a George Ferencz/Rita Czaja motion.
For the curriculum proposal from the Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Coaching Department, Rita Czaja moved with a second by Jolly Emrey to receive and record the requisite change for PEPROF 240 Theory of Team and Individual Activities. The motion carried.
The curriculum proposals from the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department for a new course, MATH 449 Actuarial Examination Preparation and a change in minor – Actuarial Mathematics minor were approved on a Marshall Anderson/Jeff Zimmerman motion.
Marshall Anderson moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the Marketing Department for a change in major – Marketing. Stuart Glosser seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Ray Baus moved to receive and record with a second by Stephanie Miller the curriculum proposals from the Social Work Department for the following requisite changes –SOCWORK 371 Social Work Practice I, SOCWORK 372 Social Work Practice II, SOCWORK 473/673 Social Work Practice III, and SOCWORK 493 Social Work Experience. The motion carried.
The curriculum proposal from the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Department for title change – from: SOCIOLGY 252 Marriage and the Family to: SOCIOLGY 252 Introduction to Family Studies was received and recorded on a Kirsten Crossgrove/Simone DeVore motion.
The curriculum proposal from the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Department for description change & title change – from: SOCIOLGY 372 White-Collar Crime to: SOCIOLGY 372 White-Collar Crime: Corporate and Government Deviance was approved/received and recorded on a Kirsten Crossgrove/Simone DeVore motion.
For the curriculum proposals from the Special Education Department, Rita Czaja moved with a second by Simone DeVore to receive and record the requisite change for SPECED 476/676 Curriculum, Methods & Materials for Those with Mult Disabilities and SPECFLD 410/610 General Education Field Experiences. The motion carried.
For the curriculum proposals from the Women’s Studies Department for a change in major – Women’s Studies and change in minor – Women’s Studies, George Ferencz moved to approve with a second by Kisten Crossgrove. The motion carried. NOTE: Proposals retracted per virtual UCC meeting on 10/17/07 – Summer 2008 proposals on the 9/21/07 agenda include all changes.
The special courses approved between 4/6/07 through 8/31/07/07 were received and recorded on a Stuart Glosser/Scott Bradley motion.

Harlan Smith, Director of the Office of International Education and
Programs, spoke to the UCC concerning the regulatory and academic differences
between Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training
(CPT) (Optional
Practical Training and Curricular Practical Training.). Mr.
Smith informed the UCC that international students are prohibited
from engaging in internship, practicum, or other training-related endeavor
unless it is required of their major, as noted in the catalogue, or is
required by a curricular track within a major, as noted in the
catalogue. Dr. Monfils asked the UCC to
take this information back to their units and, if appropriate, to make
recommendations for proposed curricular changes. Mr. Smith reiterated
that UW-W would like to afford the same educationally-related options and
benefits to our international students as those enjoyed by domestic
students. Harlan Smith, Director of the Office of International Education
