Minutes of the September 21, 2007 meeting

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

The September 21, 2007 agenda was approved on a Marshall Anderson/Jim Molloy motion.

Ellen Davis moved and Marshall Anderson seconded the approval of the September 7, 2007 minutes.  Motion carried.

 

Since there were a few new members at the meeting, Dr. Monfils welcomed them and had everyone introduce himself/herself.

Ellen Davis moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the College of Letters & Sciences for change in major Integrated Science – Business (BS).  Jim Molloy seconded the motion. The motion carried.

For the curriculum proposal from the College of Education, Simone DeVore moved with a second by Scott Bradley to approve the removal of milestone.  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposal from the Accounting Department for a change in majorAccounting (BBA)- was approved on a Jim Molloy/Lila Waldman motion.

The curriculum proposals from the Biological Sciences Department for course revision & description change were received and recorded and a contact hour and/or credit change were approved for BIOLOGY 254 Biotechnology Laboratory Methods I and BIOLOGY 364 Biotechnology Laboratory Methods II on an Ellen Davis/Jolly Emrey motion.

Ray Baus moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the Communication Department for other curricular action to change GPA requirement.  Jeff Zimmerman seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

For the curriculum proposals from the Communication Department, Jolly Emrey moved with a second by Marshall Anderson to receive and record description change for JOURNLSM 270 Multimedia Production I and requisite change for JOURNLSM 271 Multimedia Production II, JOURNLSM 352 Advanced Multimedia Production, JOURNLSM 406 Reporting Public Affairs, JOURNLSM 423 Advising Campaigns. The motion carried.

Ray Baus moved to approve with a second by Lila Waldman the curriculum proposal from the Communication Department for a change in minorAdvertising minor. The motion carried.

The curriculum proposals from the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department for  requisite change for COMDIS 481/681 Language Disorders in Children;  description change & requisite change for COMDIS 210 Observation and Participation (see next paragraph for the approval item for this course) and COMDIS 472/672 Assessment in Communicative Disorders;   description change, requisite change, and title change from:  COMDIS 424/624 Organic Speech Disorders to: COMDIS 424/624 Communication Disorders across the Life Span;  description change, title change, and number change from:  COMDIS 376 Articulation & Phonological Disorders to: COMDIS 477/677 Disorders of Speech Production;  title change from:  COMDIS 270 Introduction to Communicative Disorders to: COMDIS 270 Introduction to Human Communication and Disorders;  description change and title change from:  COMDIS 278 Speech Sciences I:  Anatomy and Physiology to:  COMDIS 278 Anatomy and Physiology of Human Communication and from: COMDIS 426/626 Neurogenic Communicative Disorders to:  COMDIS 426/626 Neural Bases of Speech and Language;  course deletion for COMDIS 375 Speech Science II: Speech Acoustics, Speech Physiology and Speech Perception and COMDIS 381  Hearing Science were received and recorded on a Marshall Anderson/Simone DeVore motion.

The curriculum proposals from the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department for contact hour and/or credit change for COMDIS 210 Observation and Participation;  new coursesCOMDIS 240 Hearing and Speech Science, COMDIS 340/540 Manual Communication, COMDIS 351 Phonetic Transcription, COMDIS 385/585 Fluency Disorders;  change in majorCommunication Sciences and Disorders (BA), Communication Sciences and Disorders (BS), and Communication Sciences and Disorders (BSE) were approved on a Scott Bradley/Simone DeVore motion.

For the curriculum proposal from the Curriculum and Instruction Department, Lila Waldman moved with a second by Marshall Anderson to approve the grade basis change for CIGENRL 470 Student Teaching Seminar.  The motion carried.

For the curriculum proposals from the Finance and Business Law Department, Jim Molloy moved to approve the new submajorFinance Honors Emphasis and to receive and record the description change for FNBSLW 341 Business and Commercial Law.  Lila Waldman seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Lila Waldman moved to receive and record the following curriculum proposals from the Information Technology and Business Education Department:  description change for ITBE 245 Technology Applications for Business Teachers, course revision, description change, and title change from:  ITBE 461 Organizational and Administration of Cooperative Education Programs to: ITBE 461 Organization, Administration, & Coordination of Cooperative Education Programs, course deletion for ITBE 462 Coordination Techniques and to approve the following curriculum proposals:  grade basis change for ITBE 245 Technology Applications for Business Teachers, new course for ITBE 285 Business Web Application Design, and change in majorInformation Technology Infrastructure (BBA) and Business and Marketing Education.  Jim Molloy seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Marshall Anderson moved to receive and record the curriculum proposal from the Management Department for requisite change for MANAGEMNT 306 Operations Management.  Jeff Zimmerman seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposal from the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department for a requisite change for COMPSCI 433 Theory of Algorithms was received and recorded on a Jim Molloy/Jeff Zimmerman motion.

Marshall Anderson moved with a second by Simone DeVore to approve the curriculum proposals from the Music Department for grade basis change for MUSC 060 Private Instrumental Instruction in the Primary Performing Area, MUSC 070 Private Vocal Instruction in the Primary Performing Area, and MUSC 080 Private Keyboard Instruction in the Primary Performing Area.  The motion carried.

Ellen Davis moved to approve the curriculum proposals from the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department for new minorWorld Religions minor and change in minorLiberal Studies minor.  Marshall Anderson seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The curriculum proposals from the Physics Department for requisite change for PHYSCS 130 Physics Foundation, PHYSCS 240 Physics of Sound and Music, and PHYSCS 305 Mechanics – Statics;  for title change from:  PHYSCS 310 Mechanics I to:  PHYSCS 310 Mechanics – Dynamics; and for course deletion for PHYSCS 282  Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics were received and recorded on an Ellen Davis/Jolly Emrey motion.

For the curriculum proposals from the Political Science Department, Jolly Emrey moved with a second by Stephanie Miller to approve the change in majorPolitical Science BA/BS and Political Science Education major and the change in minorPolitical Science minor, Political Science Education minor, and Legal Studies minor.  The motion carried.

Marshall Anderson moved to approve the curriculum proposal from the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice Department for new courseSOCIOLGY 342 Sociology of Family and Work.  Simone DeVore seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

For the curriculum proposals from the Special Education Department, Simone DeVore moved with a second by Scott Bradley to receive and record the requisite change for SPECFLD 489A Directed Teaching Special Education – Cognitive Disability, SPECFLD 489B Directed Teaching Special Education – Learning Disability, SPECFLD 489C Directed Teaching Special Education – Emotional/Behavioral, and SPECFLD 489D Directed Teaching Special Education – Cross Categorical. The motion carried.

Marshall Anderson moved to approve the curriculum proposals from the Women’s Studies Department for change in majorWomen’s Studies major and change in minorWomen’s Studies minor.  Jeff Zimmerman seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

The special courses approved between 8/31/07 through 9/12/07 were received and recorded on a Marshall Anderson/Ellen Davis motion.
