We invite UW-Whitewater faculty and instructional academic staff to nominate students for the university-wide awards for outstanding undergraduate student writing. Papers, essays, or written assignments (no more than two per instructor) completed by undergraduate students to meet a course requirement will be accepted in each of the following categories:

| a. Expository Essays | short analytical or persuasive papers |
| b. Research Papers | quantitative or qualitative research papers, literature reviews |
| c. Creative Writing | fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, multi-genre pieces |
| d. Journalistic Writing | newspaper articles, television or radio copy, investigative reporting, editorials |
| e. Essay Exams | In-class or take-home exams |
| f. Scientific or Technical Writing | field reports, lab reports, manuals |
| g. Professional Writing | case studies, lesson plans, business plans, grant proposals, resume or vita cover letters |
| h. Reviews or Personal Response Papers | book, theatre or art exhibit reviews |
| i. Marketing Communications | ads, press releases, direct-marketing pieces |
| j. Other |
For each nomination, we ask instructors to submit a:
- “clean” hard copy of the paper, essay or written assignment
- completed award nomination form (includes a signed release from the student allowing the paper to be submitted for the awards)
to one of their college representatives on the Writing Awards Committee by March 1, 2008.
