About the Program

The Information Technology Infrastructure major focuses on the computer systems that support corporations. ITI majors learn network management, systems administration, PC hardware troubleshooting techniques, network and information security, resource management and project management. They take additional courses in web design, database design, and programming. Students also complete the College of Business requirements.

Students experience hands-on installation, configuration and troubleshooting in two computing labs. One lab is dedicated to PC hardware maintenance, network administration, and security and a second to general technical support and applications.

Accreditation

The College of Business and Economics is accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This accreditation applies to both undergraduate and graduate programs. The use of technology in business has increased the demand for infrastructure support personnel.

Career Opportunities

The use of technology in business has increased the demand for infrastructure support personnel. Graduates of the program are well prepared for a broad range of computing positions. Information Technology occupations are among Wisconsin’s fastest growing occupations within the next 7 years. Network Systems and Data Communication Analysts are predicted to be the second fastest growing occupation at both the national and state level. The Department of Workforce Development predicts 56.4% growth in this area. The department calculates the average income in this area for those with a bachelor’s degree to be above $55,000.

Faculty

Faculty in the information technology and business education department hold doctoral degrees, and academic staff have masters degrees and work experience. Members of the department often receive recognition for their teaching, research and service efforts at the national, state and local levels.

High School Preparation

There is no special preparation required to enter the program. An interest in working with both technology and people is critical to success.

Internship Opportunities

Many of our students complete internships with companies and non-profit organizations in the area. Examples of internship sites include:
  • Harley Davidson, Inc
  • Quad Graphics
  • Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation
  • American Family Insurance

Student Organizations

The program has an active student organization that meets weekly. The organization brings in alumni and regional corporate representatives.
