About the Program
The Multimedia Digital Arts major is a specialized degree offering career preparation in what is often referred to as the “new media.” This dynamic new major prepares students for careers creating multimedia content and/or information development, web and animation design and production. Additional career opportunities in technology industries include work in sound design, video taping and editing, 3D graphic modeling and 3D animation, motion graphics and interactive interface design.
Upon graduation, students will have extensive coursework in writing for multimedia, multimedia design aesthetics and new media production techniques. Majors select one of two academic tracks:
- Multimedia/communication track, which specializes in the development and production of multimedia as a creative tool for effective communication used in learning, entertainment, information sharing, marketing, promotion, advertising, and management environments.
- Multimedia/art track, which specializes in original new media creation, multimedia design practice and aesthetic production.
In the college multimedia computer laboratories, students learn to use the latest software on both the MAC and PC platforms. In addition to the available computer labs, students will also have access to video editing suites, sound editing suites, blue screen videotaping and compositing facilities, multimedia editing suites and related technology in the campus television and radio stations. Student job preparation in enhanced by on-campus professional opportunities and off-campus internships.
In addition to a major in multimedia digital arts, students can supplement their multimedia coursework with a minor in related fields like End User Technology, Management Computer Science, Electronic Media, Public Relations, Music, Advertising, or Graphic Design.

The UW-Whitewater Multimedia Digital Arts major prepares students for numerous careers, including:

Faculty
All faculty members in the Multimedia Digital Arts area hold doctoral or masters of fine arts degrees, and academic staff members have at least a master’s degree. Multimedia faculty and staff have impressive backgrounds in the digital arts with specialties in multimedia production, multimedia design, and audio production.

High School Preparation
Multimedia Digital Arts students benefit from study in a variety of subject areas including art, speech, journalism, music, photography and radio/television. Familiarity with computer aided production in these fields is a plus.
