AAN (African American Network)

The African American Network serves to enhance retention rates, develop and graduate African American students.  We are dedicated to providing academic and personal support as well as various other resources to maximize your educational experience here at UW-Whitewater.  The main focus is on supporting African American students' academic endeavors by connecting them with campus resources, community events, and educational programs.

Goals:
*Create and provide outlets for students' academic and social interests.
*Serve as a link between African American students and UW-Whitewater.
*Increase the number of successful African American students at UW-Whitewater.
*Serve as a resource for UW-Whitewater students who are researching African American cultures.
*Provide personal and academic mentorship to multicultural students.

Services Offered:
*Academic Services: The AAN provides secondary academic advising for African American students such as course selection and major/minor changes.
*Study Tables: Students are provided with the opportunity to study together to share ideas and resources.  Students are encouraged to utilize the tutorial center for academic help.
*Brother 2 Brother & Sister 2 Sister: These are two mentoring programs designed to provide personal, social, and academic resources to multicultural students with a goal of enhancing retention and graduation rates.
*Activities: The AAN sponsors and co-sponsors academic programs and cultural activities.

NASS (Native American Support Services)

NASS provides academic advising and tutoring as well as financial counseling to Native students. Native American Support Services works to make sure that Native students are able to have the best experience possible at UW-Whitewater, relieving some of the academic and financial stresses of college life. NASS also keeps students informed of valuable information that will ensure enriching their experience at UW-Whitewater.

Goal:
*Increase the retention and graduation rates of Native American students
*Provide Native students with the academic and financial assistance they need to be successful
*Increase the number of Native students at UW-W going on to seek graduate degrees
*Increase student awareness of valuable opportunities provided through other minority programs and services

Services Offered:
*Provide academic advising for students.
*Assist first-year students in learning what is expected of them at the college level, and connect them with resources they need to succeed.

*Serve as a liaison with other academic support offices and assure that Native American students are aware of  those services.
*Program cultural events and guest lectures that address the cultural and social concerns of Native American students.

*Research Opportunities including Proposal Development, Identification of a Faculty Mentor
*Career Preparation Information on the Hawk Career Fair, NEON Corporate Fair, Minority Career Day, and Summer Internships

SASS (Southeast Asian Support Services)

Southeast Asian Support Services (SASS) provides resources for Southeast Asian students on academic, social and personal issues to increase retention and graduation by connecting with Academic Support Services, the community, parents, and student organizations. The Southeast Asian Support Services (SASS) helps guide, develop. And provide resources for Southeast Asian students on academics and social issues to increase their retention and graduation at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Southeast Asian Support Services (SASS) focuses on supporting Southeast Asian studentsÂ’ academic endeavors by connecting them with campus resources, community events, and educational programs.

Goal:
*Create and provide outlets for studentsÂ’academic and social interests.
*Serve as a link between Southeast Asian students and UW-Whitewater.
*Increase the number of Southeast Asian students and UW-Whitewater.
*Serve as a resource room for UW-Whitewater students who are researching Southeast Asian Cultures.

Services Offered:

*Study Table: Academic Achievers give students opportunities to study together to share ideas and resources. Students are encouraged to utilize the tutorial center for academic help.
*Resources: SASS provides resources to all UW-Whitewater students who are researching Southeast Asian cultures and current issues. The program subscribes to a variety of publications focusing on Southeast Asian cultures.
*Activities: SASS sponsors and co-sponsors academic programs and cultural activities.

Academic Network/Fresh Start

FRESH START initiative targets incoming freshmen who have participate in the UW-Whitewater Precollege Programs and are now attending UW-Whitewater for their undergraduate work. The FRESH STARTs helps guide, develop and provide resources for pre-college and college students on academic and social issues to increase their retention and graduation at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.  The focus is on supporting Pre-College and College students' academic endeavors by connecting them with campus resources, community events, and educational programs.

Goals:
*Create and provide outlets for students' academic and social interests.
*Serve as a link between Pre-College and College students and UW-Whitewater campus and faculty.
*Increase the retention rate of FRESH START and Pathways for Success students at UW-Whitewater

Services Offered:
*Academic Services: Provides secondary academic advising for students such as course selection, major/minor exploration, referrals, and career exploration.
*Study Table: Academic Achievers give students opportunities to study together to share ideas and resources.  Students are encouraged to utilize the tutorial center for academic help.
*Resources: Provides resources to UW-Whitewater students who are looking for assistance4 in academic, career, and social/cultural retention activities.
*Activities: Sponsors and co-sponsors academic programs and cultural activities.
