here at UW- Whitewater. I am currently majoring in Interpersonal Communication
with Advertising minor. I plan on graduating in the spring of 2014. In the
future I want to work in sales and advertising and hopefully own a private
business. I look forward to being a tutor because I love helping people
and it just happens that I am good at math. I hope to use my communication
skills to further my experience in helping students and, in turn, learn
how to be a better communicator. I believe it is important to help others,
and I can't wait to start tutoring. In my free time I love watching funny
movies, sleeping, playing intramural softball and volunteering. Overall
I am very outgoing and love talking to people, so don't be anxious to ask
me anything.

I am a second-year graduate student working toward my MPA (Masters of
Professional Accountancy) and plan on graduating in May 2012. I have a Bachelor's
Degree in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon
graduating, I plan on sitting for the CPA and moving to Chicago to pursue
a career in private or public accounting. I am looking forward to this tutoring
experience because I have benefited greatly from having my peers assist
me in understanding the difficult material presented in my accounting courses.
In addition, by having a peer review my writing compositions, I have learned
how to sharpen my writing communication skills. Outside of class, I am a
member of Beta Alpha Psi, and I like to play volleyball and piano. I am
here to help you, so please feel free to come and talk to me!

My name is Amy, and I am a non-traditional transfer student. I attended
the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for 3 years before transferring to
UW-Whitewater. In Milwaukee, I majored in Community Education and interned
at Pathfinders Youth Shelter. I am a now a super-senior at UW-Whitewater
with a major in Secondary English Writing Education, and minor in Sociology.
I plan on going to graduate school for Alternative Education, or Sociology.
My educational focus has, and always will be, working with at-risk students,
non-traditional students, and otherwise marginalized students. I love teaching
and view it as a calling rather than a career choice. I am also a firm believer
in the philosophy that teachers learn as much from their students as students
learn from their teachers: learning is symbiotic. I look forward to working
with my peers and fellow scholars.

I grew up in Los Angeles, California, but I graduated high school from
McFarland, Wisconsin (right outside of Madison). I went to MATC Madison
and then transferred to Whitewater last year to further my goal of being
a high school math teacher. I really enjoy helping people with math because
I like to see people succeed at things they were struggling with. I have
tutored before, but I have not here at Whitewater. I am excited to start
helping people understand math. In my free time I enjoy many sports including
soccer, golf, basketball, football, and ultimate Frisbee. |

I am a second-year graduate student in the Counselor Education Department.
I originally graduated from UW-Whitewater in 2004 with a degree in Political
Science. I completed a second degree in Psychology last year after serving
six years as an intelligence analyst in the US Army and WI Army National
Guard. After completing my masters, I would like to work as a marriage and
family therapist and licensed professional counselor. My daughter, Lucy,
is four and attends the Children's Center on campus. When she gets a little
older, I plan on earning a Ph. D in psychology and working on research that
benefits military service members, veterans, and their families. I will
never be complete in my quest for knowledge, as there is always something
more to learn. I believe that academic success is having the tools and knowledge
to accomplish set goals in any course. A student who comprehends writing
style and content, has effective study skills, and knows where to access
resources can be successful in any endeavor. I am here to help anyone who
has questions about APA style. It can be tricky to learn at first if you
are used to writing in MLA or Chicago style, but I will help every step
of the way. I am available to assist with a specific writing assignment
or to answer general questions. In my free time I enjoy bike riding, yoga,
volleyball, cooking, softball, and am learning how to play racquetball.

Spanish

My name is Caitlin, and I am a senior double majoring in Spanish and
International Studies with a minor in Marketing. I love Spanish, both the
language and the culture. I have studied abroad in Spanish countries three
times, which has greatly improved my conversational skills as well as giving
me a greater understanding and appreciation of the language and the culture.
As a senior in high school, I studied in Argentina. Being an "A" student
in high school Spanish, I thought it would be easy. It was challenging to
say the least, but I returned to the U.S. and could converse well in Spanish.
A four-week winter term in Mexico, followed by a six-month study in Chile
during my sophomore year strengthened my grammar and conversational skills.
I am enrolled in Spanish conversation class this semester, and plan on studying
Spanish for Business next semester. This will be my first time tutoring
people other than friends. I am friendly and patient, have an extensive
knowledge of Spanish grammar and composition and am passionate about the
Spanish language. I will share my knowledge of Spanish, listen to your needs,
make suggestions and improvements on your study methods and hopefully make
Spanish fun to learn! |

Hi! My name is Cherie, and I'm a freshman English major with a Psychology minor. This is my first ever experience with tutoring, but I have always loved to read and write, especially creative writing. During my senior year of high school I was very fortunate to have a short story that I had written published online. I dont know what I want to do with my major yet, but I am doing exploring into options like teaching, publishing, and professional writing. I have always liked helping my peers with proofreading their papers in high school. So I am very excited to get the chance to help UW-Whitewater students learn and hopefully push them forward with a better understanding of writing.

Craig
Math
|
 |
Greetings! My name is Craig; I’m a senior at the University. My chosen major is (pure) mathematics; my minor is psychology.
My affinity for mathematics dates to my youth. Indeed, I very much enjoyed its study whilst in primary and secondary school. When I entered university, however, I abandoned this, my first intellectual love -- and was repaid with misery. I’ve since recommitted myself to it -- a revenant lover, if you will -- and have been all the happier. Indeed, the study of mathematics has benefitted me both intellectually -- its content has been a source of mental challenge, excitement, and nourishment -- and personally. Re the latter: I tutored mathematics this past academic year, both at Milwaukee Area Technical College, and at this University. (I was deeply honored to do so.) In that capacity, I cultivated many productive and warm relationships, especially with my tutees. I believe that all parties were improved as a result. To conclude: I’m eager to assume the responsibilities of this tutorship. By doing so, I hope to continue in service to this wonderful community -- thereby improving it, and myself. |

History and Writing

Hello! My name is Eugene Nagawiecki. I am a senior at UW-Whitewater. I am originally from the small town of Wauconda, Illinois – which is about 50 miles Northwest of Chicago. I am a History BSE major with psychology as my minor and Political Science as sort of an emphasis. I hope to eventually move on to graduate school to study Education. My main goal after graduation, however, is to get a classroom of my own and teach high school students the wonders of history, psychology, and political science. I absolute love history, psychology, political science, and education, and cannot wait to share my passion with students. History has also been my favorite subject in school. Something about the past has always intrigued me. I have taken many history classes throughout my college career at Whitewater including The Civil War and Reconstruction; American History 1919-1945 Depression, Prosperity, and War; Historical Methods; and History 499 Senior seminar. I was even fortunate enough to spend a semester abroad studying at the historic and prestigious Jagiellonian University in the beautiful city of Krakow, Poland. While there I took classes such as Holocaust and its Cultural Meaning, Eastern Europe 16-18th century, and the Cold War. As an amateur historian I have become proficient in the skills of writing. Particularly in formulating strong theses; incorporate ample, pertinent, reputable evidence; and being clear, concise, and critical in writing. I hope to use these skills to help students in writing their own papers, and teach them to effectively use such skills themselves. I look forward to the tutoring process as it will not only benefit students and help them grow, but it will also be an invaluable experience to improve my own writing abilities. Apart from history and teaching I love to travel, play sports (particularly soccer and football), play guitar, draw, and practice my Polish. Feel free to email me anytime and attend tutoring and S.I. session at the Academic Support Center! |

be a sophomore here on campus and I have a Math Education major with an
Actuarial Mathematics emphasis. I hope to one day become a high school math
teacher, and perhaps even teach at a college. I will be a new supplemental
instructor here on campus, and I am very excited about it. I love helping
others, especially with math. It is a subject many people struggle with,
and helping someone understand it is very fulfilling for me. I am very hardworking
and determined to do the best that I can to achieve my goals. |

History
|
 |
I am sophomore in my first year here at UW-Whitewater. I am originally
from Colorado but graduated from Mayville, WI. I am a transfer student from
not one, but two different colleges (UW-Washington County and MATC-Madison)
and this is my third year of college experience. I commute from Janesville
and work at a skilled nursing facility right here in Whitewater. After many
changes for my major and some long soul searching, I am ready to fulfill
my dream of becoming a high school educator specializing in history, but
my interests vary across the board: writing/reading, art, music, psychology,
and ethnic studies. In hopes of achieving my career goal, I am now helping
students through tutoring and SI services. This, along with my college experience
here at Whitewater, will provide me with ample experience in aiding and
educating others. I consider myself extremely friendly, fun-loving, laid
back, helpful person who wants to see others succeed at achieving their
own dreams. |

Social Work, Sociology and Writing
|
 |
Hello! My name is Kayla, and I am a senior with a double major in Social Work and Sociology. I am originally from the Milwaukee area and believe the best time you can spend during the summer is in Milwaukee! I love research and hope to work in a research setting or applied social work with an emphasis on research. I have previous experience in a research setting through an independent study I completed 2 years ago, as well as research and statistics classes I have taken. This semester I will be participating in another independent study in which I will be doing data analysis for the Rock County Center on Aging. In addition to the independent study, I will have a three credit internship in which I will be assisting a professor with lectures related to child abuse and prevention. I work multiple jobs, but my schedule is flexible, so I am able to meet with students at various times throughout the week. I am very friendly and have a great work ethic. I am also easy to get a hold of at any time of the day. I am best reached through email and will respond in a timely manner. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you with your academic goals! |

S.I. Study Group Leader, Accounting
|
 |
I am currently a junior working on my degree in Information Technology.
I have been tutoring for over a year now and feel I have the ability to
put a different spin on some of the accounting concepts that tend to give
students the most trouble. My previous experiences tutoring has given me
confidence about my knowledge in accounting, and I am very excited for this
opportunity to further my knowledge and help many more students and hopefully
make them enjoy accounting as much as I already do.

Lindsy
Accounting
|
 |
Hello, my name is Lindsy! Currently, I'm a senior here at UWW pursing
a double bachelor degree in Accounting and Finance with an emphasis in financial
planning
who knows when I will actually graduate! Eventually, I want to
get a MBA in Finance as well. Crazy, I know! Originally, I'm from small
country town called Portage, WI, located between Madison and Wisconsin Dells.
While this is my first year being a tutor here at the Academic Support Center,
I've been a tutor for the Center for Students with Disabilities for multiple
semesters as well as a volunteer tutor for a group of peers as we've progressed
through classes together. As you will see, I've completed almost all of
the accounting classes that there is to take at the undergraduate level,
so please feel free to ask for my help in any of them! I've been told that
I should go into teaching because I am very good at helping students understand
the topics in a way that they will remember. I look forward to meeting with
you to help you through your tough accounting classes! |

Spanish
|
 |
I am in my second year at UW-Whitewater majoring in accounting. I don't
know what I am going to do when I graduate; I might come back to get my
MPA, or I might take the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) and see if I can
get in into law school. I was born and raised in a small town that is about
two to three hours away from Mexico City. When I was fifteen I moved to
Williams Bay, Wisconsin where I attended high school. This is going to be
my fourth year here in the US. I am really excited to start helping people
learn Spanish.

Malissa
Sociology and Math
|
 |
Hello! My name is Malissa, and I am a senior this year at the University
of Wisconsin-Whitewater majoring in Sociology with an emphasis in Race and
Ethnic Relations and a minor in Urban/Area Development. I am currently applying
to a variety of graduate school programs seeking a Masters Degree in Urban/Area
Development with an emphasis on Community and Economic Development. My goal
is to one day soon work in inner-city communities helping them to develop
economically and socially. I have taken a broad range of classes within
the Sociology department as well as outside the department. I am well versed
in sociological theories, criminology, urban sociology, basic methods and
principles, health and illness, and specialize in race and ethnic relations.
Outside of the Sociology department I have taken multiple economic classes,
business law, public policy, and mathematics, all of which can be directly
applied to some topic within the Sociology department. I am currently working
on an interdisciplinary research project combining economics, issues with
race and education, housing practices, and business law looking at racial
segregation along with the spatial mismatch of jobs and its overall effects
on education. On a personal level I am a very easy person to talk to and
will always be willing to help. I am involved in many leadership positions
on campus including Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, McNair, and the Black Student
Union. I have a lot of in-depth knowledge about many topics due to my love
of the Discovery, National Geographic, and History channels. It is a personal
goal of mine to advance in my academic career and bringing up with me as
many people as possible. |

Megan
Math and Writing
|
 |
My name is Megan, and I have a BA from UW-Madison in English with a Creative Writing emphasis. This is my second year at UW-Whitewater, and I am working toward a second undergraduate degree in math with a music minor. During my time at Madison, I changed my major no less than five times; I studied everything from chemistry to flute performance to physics to Russian literature, and more - you name it! It may have taken a while, but I finally realized math is my true calling, and I hope to go to grad school soon. Along the way, I managed to pick up a degree in English and am excited to have the opportunity to help my Whitewater classmates with both writing and math. After graduating from Madison, I spent a few years as a receptionist at an eye clinic, which has shown me there is always more than one way to approach a problem. This outside-the-box thinking is especially helpful on those stubborn math problems or the great ideas you can't quite work out on paper. That job also cured my shyness to the degree that I now am so approachable, people at the grocery store often ask me where to find things (and I don't even work there). So don't hesitate to say hi - I will be more than happy to help you with your math, review your research paper, or even critique your original fiction/poetry, if you want! |
Michael B. Economics
|
 |
Hello, my name is Michael, and I am currently a senior at UW-Whitewater
majoring in Economics. Once I graduate, I am planning on pursuing a Doctorate
in Econometrics and either seek a teaching job or pursue work as an analyst.
I am a member of Economics Society and I am also the Vice President of the
Student Undergraduate Research Organization. The topic that I am currently
researching is how Minnesotas public school choice program affects student
performance. I plan on presenting my paper at conferences here in the Midwest
and one in San Francisco next semester. In my economics classes I have always
worked closely with a few people to help them, and myself, better understand
the material. This is my first semester tutoring and I am very excited to
help people understand what I enjoy doing.

After finishing my undergraduate here at Whitewater I plan to go to graduate

for when I teach in the future. |
Nicole L. Math and Writing
|
 |
My name is Nicole, and I'm from Antioch, IL. I'm a senior majoring in math education with a minor in Spanish. I've always loved doing math problems, and I hope to be able to nurture the same feelings in the students I'll be teaching someday. After graduating I plan on being a high school math teacher and then getting a Masters in education. I'm excited to be tutoring for EDFOUND 243. The course is writing intensive, and it taught me many good writing techniques that will allow me to be a good tutor for this class. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, working out, and coaching an elementary cheerleading team.

Nicole P. Writing
|
 |
My name is Nicole, and I am senior here at Whitewater with a major in
Secondary English Education. I have lived in Illinois my entire life, but
coming to Wisconsin has been a great experience. I have spent my time here
on campus getting involved in a wide variety of different organizations,
volunteering in the community, and meeting many different wonderful people.
Also, this is my third year as a Resident Assistant in Clem Hall, and I
still love my job. I discovered my passion for writing when I was in Junior
High, and I really enjoy working with others to improve their writing. So
far in college I have taken many different English classes including Multicultural
Literature, British Literature, linguistic courses, Shakespeare, Adolescent
Literature, and critical writing courses. Although writing is something
I enjoy, I realize that other people may struggle with elements of writing.
I am a very open and accepting person who is willing to work with anyone
and give helpful advice. I look forward to the opportunity to help you with
your papers and writing assignments!

I am currently entering my senior year here at UW-Whitewater, originally
from Racine, WI. I am majoring in English education with a minor in history.
I hope to be able to teach high school English once I graduate. I also aspire
to eventually come back to school to get my masters and a Ph.D., in hopes
to teach at a university one day. I love to write, go over papers and help
people think of ideas for their papers. I once saw writing as a dreaded
task, until I got help from a teacher who made writing fun; I hope to be
an inspiration just as that teacher was inspiring to me. |

Shanell
SI Study Group Leader
|
 |
Hello to everyone! My name is Shanell, and I am a freshman majoring
in business. I love helping people, teaching them new things, and giving
them a different prospective. This is because I know how I felt when I struggled
with homework, but I also know the joy when I finally figure it out! I want
to be able to supply students with that satisfaction as well. Helping people
also improves character and understanding of how people learn. When I know
how someone learns, I can find different ways to help them learn. |

avoid negativity in my life all together. If you need help with any
math up to Calc II, just let me know and I'll be more than happy to help
