Amanda--S.I. Tutor

I am originally from Racine, Wisconsin. I graduated from high school in 2002 and went to the University of Minnesota where I got my Bachelor’s degree in biology. This is my second year here at Whitewater, and I am working on getting my teaching license. Science has always been my favorite subject, and I am eager to start teaching biology to high school students. I love to watch movies and go to concerts, but I especially love watching sports. I am a huge Wisconsin sports fan, except for the Badgers of course…Go Gophers!

Scena--S.I. Tutor

I graduated in 2008 from Bradford High School in Kenosha, WI. This is my second year at Whitewater. I’m majoring in biology with an emphasis in cell physiology and my minor is Spanish. My current plan for after I graduate here is to go on to medical school at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. After I graduate there and go through my residency, I would like to open my own practice and work with patients who have diabetes.
It is my first year working as a Supplemental Instruction leader for Biology 120. I’ve found it to be extremely rewarding so far. I really like helping people so it’s a good feeling to know that I can help the students in my sessions to understand all the material better!

I am a fourth year student, currently finishing up my bachelor's this semester. My major is cell physiology with a minor in chemistry. After this semester, I plan on continuing at UW-Whitewater in order to attain my teaching license. Following college, I intend on teaching high school biology or chemistry. Thanks to two previous semester of being a supplementary instructor for chemistry, I have found great satisfaction tutoring college students. As a result, I look forward to tutoring biology and chemistry students this coming semester in anticipation of my future career as a secondary education science teacher.

Dave--Accounting Tutor

I am a senior here at UW-W pursuing my BBA in accounting. After this year, I plan to come back to UW-W for my MPA. I have been a tutor for a year and a half, and it has been a great experience for me. My tutoring has helped me to both master the fundamentals of accounting and explain them to people without a background in accounting. Hopefully, my experience tutoring will help me in my career as a CPA.

Lacmbouh--Math Tutor

I am from Cameroon in West Africa. I have been in Wisconsin for about two winters now, and those of you who have been coming to the math center know me, for I have been around for a while. I am a cell physiology major who has taken a lot of math courses in the past. The trick to understanding math is to understand what it takes to become good at math. Constant solving and understanding of the principles is all you need to be good to go. Just stop by and let me know if I can be of any help, for I would be more than happy to help you to the best of my abilities. So see you at the math center.

Walter--Math Tutor

I am a junior here at Whitewater. I am currently studying to be a mathematics educator by taking classes that I enjoy, math. I enjoy working math problems, and I enjoy learning new things about mathematics. My hobbies are sports, eating cereal, watching football, and doing math problems. I am here to assist you in your mathematical queries. So, if you have any questions, let me know, and I will help you.

Jon--Math Tutor

I am a sophomore this year. My major is mathematics with a minor in coaching. I plan on becoming a math teacher in high school and figure tutoring is the closest thing right now. I've been helping people with math since high school and have always loved it. You can ask me anything about math and I will try to answer it. If I don't know the answer, then I'm sorry, but I will do my best to try and help you out. I will try and make math as simple as possible and hopefully convince you into liking it, even if you didn't before.

Monica--Math Tutor

This is my fourth and final year at UW-Whitewater. I will be graduating in May with a secondary math education major with a Spanish education minor. My plan after graduation is to hopefully find a summer school teaching job around this area and try my hardest to get a teaching position in a high school for next school year. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, softball and tennis, jogging, listening to music, and hanging out with friends/family. My favorite music is Dave Matthews Band and favorite show is The Office. I also work part time stocking groceries at Sentry. So if you ever see me in there, feel free to say, "Hi!" :) I have a passion for mathematics and teaching; therefore, I will try my best to help those who struggle to understand.

I am a junior with a mathematical statistics major with an actuarial mathematics minor. Upon graduating, I plan on pursuing a career as an actuary, most likely with an insurance company. David--Math Tutor

I am currently a senior at UW-Whitewater and am majoring in accounting. My plans are to graduate in December but then continue right on in graduate school with the Masters of Public Accountancy Program. I tutor both math and accounting courses. Tutoring is very rewarding because it is easy to see the results of the work .It is great to see someone leave the tutoring center with an understanding of what they were working on. Outside of class and tutoring, I enjoy hanging out with friends, running cross country and track for UW-Whitewater, and watching sports.

Justin--Math Tutor

I am a first year graduate student here at UW-Whitewater. I am getting my masters degree in accounting. I also got my undergraduate degree here in statistics. I enjoy playing baseball, softball, basketball, and other sports. I have taken a lot of math courses in my time here at Whitewater and am happy to help.

Laura--Math Tutor

I am a sophomore at UW-Whitewater. I am currently majoring in secondary math education with a minor in psychology. My high school math teacher inspired me to work towards a math education degree, and to help others by tutoring on campus. I love to play soccer, listen to Taylor Swift, have fun with my friends, and babysit my niece, Lily Grace. I have my Ipod, phone, and Burt's Bees with me all the time. One of my favorite things to do is take pictures with my pink camera. Come on in to the math tutoring center; you won’t regret it!

Amanda--Math Tutor

I am in my third year here at UW-Whitewater. I am majoring in secondary education math, with a minor in English education. I plan on graduating in the Spring of 2011. Once I graduate, I hope to teach math in a high school classroom and go back for my master’s degree, in hopes of one day teaching college math. I look forward to gaining experience for my future in education through tutoring students in the math center. I hope to teach every student I work with something, and hopefully learn just as much from them.

Janina--Writing Tutor

I am a senior working toward a women's studies degree with an English literature minor. My emphasis is in literature, but I'm also an avid writer of poetry and short fiction. As a result, I am amazed at the power of language and communication, and I enjoy helping others cultivate the skills to become better communicators and writers. I used to be an English Education major because I wanted to go on to teach gender literature or writing intensive classes at a university.

Kimberly--Writing Tutor

I am a senior with a major in English with an emphasis in professional writing and book publishing. After graduation I hope to eventually work in publishing either for a young adult fiction agency or for an equine magazine. I have always enjoyed writing and like to work on writing teen fiction novels in my free time. During my senior year of high school I was a teacher’s assistant for sophomore English classes, and I greatly enjoyed working on writing skills with other students. I hope to have more positive and enlightening tutoring experiences this coming semester.

Shannon--Writing Tutor

I am a senior at UW-Whitewater. I will be graduating in May with a major in professional writing and book publishing and a minor in marketing. I have taken several writing and editing classes here at UW-Whitewater and last fall I did an internship with a publishing company in London, England. I love working with people to turn their ideas into a piece of writing they can be proud of. I want to use the writing skills I have accumulated over the last three years as a student at Whitewater to help other students to achieve their own goals.

Phil--Writing Tutor

With graduation inching closer, I’m looking to spend my senior year in college validating the skills I’ve accrued since beginning college three years ago. Tutoring will be a new experience for me. I came to UW-Whitewater with the intention of earning an education degree. Plans changed, and by the end of my freshman year I was an English major with a writing emphasis. I decided then to follow what I felt was my passion, that being writing. Freshman year, I was content to grow as a writer without considering where I would take it in terms of a career in the future. Today, I’m looking to gain skills that will make me a better mentor and coworker, and ultimately help me gain a better understanding of what can help me improve my writing while I work with others in their writing.

Jordan--Writing Tutor

I have been tutoring in the Writing Center since February ’09. As an English education student, I have found that my position prepares me for my future career in teaching. Working one-on-one with students in this setting has been a rewarding experience for many reasons: I gained experience assisting English-as-second-language students; I discovered new techniques in teaching; and I’ve been impressed with the original thoughts and ideas tutees have shared with me. During spare time over the past year I have volunteered at the Lake Geneva school district, working primarily with fourth- and fifth-grade students.
