Amanda King S.I. Study Group Leader, Biology and Chemistry |
 |
My name is Amanda King. I graduated high school in 2002. I've worked several different jobs including serving tables, being a mental health tech in psych facility and an endoscopy technician at Mercy hospital in Janesville, WI. I am a returning student, so I know what it's like to have to work really hard to understand concepts. I originally went to nursing school, but a couple of physicians I worked with inspired me to start a different path. I'm premed and a biology major here at Whitewater, and although it's one of the hardest things I've ever done, I have found it to be incredibly rewarding. When I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the work that comes along with college, I remind myself that there are girls around the world that wish they could be getting an amazing education. This helps me feel grateful for being where I am and to be doing what I'm doing. I hope to pass this feeling on to other students that come to me for help in chemistry or biology. I know that anything is possible, it may just take a lot of hard work. |

Craig Snider Math and Writing |

To all, greetings! My name is Craig Snider; I am a recent graduate of this University. (Indeed, I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics this summer.) Following my graduation, I decided to return to Whitewater and continue my studies at the graduate level. My foci are mathematics and mathematics education. My affinity for mathematics dates to my youth. Indeed, I very much enjoyed studying mathematics whilst in primary and secondary school. When I first entered university, however, I abandoned that study--and was repaid with misery. I have since recommitted myself to it and have been challenged and invigorated as a result. I began to tutor mathematics at Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2010 and continued to do so after transferring to Whitewater in January, 2011. As a result, I cultivated many productive and warm relationships, especially with my tutees. I am eager to resume the responsibilities of this tutorship. By doing so, I hope to continue in service to this wonderful community -- thereby improving it and myself. |

Over the five years that I have been tutoring, my students have ranged from a sixth grader learning multiplication tables to a nontraditional college student striving to get through a calculus class. In a nonacademic setting I enjoy rock-climbing, hacky sack, and scuba diving. Most of all I enjoy learning, so I look forward to meeting you all and sharing in this learning experience. |

I consider myself extremely friendly, fun-loving, laid back, helpful person who wants to see others succeed at achieving their own dreams. |

Thomas Johnstone Music |
 |
Hi! My name is Tom Johnstone and I'm a senior majoring in Music Performance, originally from Sun Prairie, WI. I recently resumed my college career at UW-Whitewater, having previously attended UW-Eau Claire. As a trombonist I have performed in a variety of settings, ranging from the jazz clubs of Minneapolis to concert stages in New York and Japan. I also have an extensive background in piano, composition/arranging and music technology. My dream is to one day play professionally in an orchestra. As a highly musically curious person I've done a great deal of listening and reading about music on my own, and I've always had a natural understanding of music theory. I've also experienced much success with writing throughout my college career. I can tutor many music classes and I look forward to getting acquainted with any of my colleagues who need assistance. Apart from music, I am an avid runner, movie buff and photographer. |
