Years of Service: Frequently Asked Questions

Back to the Years of Service page »

A Length of Service Award date recognizes continuous University of Wisconsin-Whitewater service in an established appointment at half-time or greater, adjusted for any breaks in service. Years of service for service award purposes are not prorated or given partial credit for part-time employment.

The date is independent of creditable years of service for retirement computations and State seniority date for adjusted continuous service. The date reflects ONLY years of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater service in a position at or greater than half-time.

Appointments are evaluated for staff serving in Limited, Faculty, Academic Staff, and University Staff appointments, which are established at half-time or greater (at or above 50% FTE).

For purposes of this program, all employment with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will be accumulative.  Years of service dates are adjusted for any breaks in service.  Employment while collecting an annuity from the Wisconsin Retirement System is not considered for purposes of this program.    Approved leave of absence will not count against an employee's date.  Ultimately, Length of Service dates are determined/calculated to err in favor of the employee.

Faculty, Academic and University Staff award years are based on full years of service from the start date of employment as of September 1st of the award year.  Employees must be actively employed as of September 1st to be considered for a length in service award.

Awards are provided for the following years of service: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50.
