and Distinctions, 2002-03
• It was a banner year in facilities advances, with more than $2
million in private gifts pledged toward the upcoming $32 million business
building project and state approval received for the second phase of the
$28 million Upham Hall science building renovation. A new Student Athletic
Complex, supported by $1.5 million in private gifts, opened in October
2003.
• The UW-Whitewater women’s volleyball team won the NCAA Division
III national championship on its home court in December 2002, defeating
Washington University in St. Louis.
• Chancellor Jack Miller and two staff members, Debra Heiber and
Susan Johnson, received awards in 2003 from the National
Academic Advising Association for their work on campus advising.
• For the seventh time since 1984, the Management Computer
Systems program earned a No. 1 national ranking in 2003 from the Association
of Information Technology Professionals.
• Thanks to a $100,000 gift from Robert and Yvonne Fiskum, the
future University Center addition will have an expanded art gallery to
feature student work.
• The UW-Whitewater chapter of the Student American Marketing
Association won the “Outstanding International Chapter” award
in
2003 for the second time in three years.
• A Native American blessing was part of the formal dedication in
June of UW-Whitewater’s prairie restoration project. More than 100
community members we on hand for the event, which featured
native American Nick Hockings and keynote speaker Nina Leopold Bradley,
daughter of famed naturalist Aldo Leopold. |
