Academic Advising &
Exploration Center
Schedule an Appointment
Advisors meet with students by appointment at least twice a semester. All advisees who have not scheduled an appointment during Plan-It Purple are required to either Check-In to our center during the first week of the semester or propose the appointment via the Outlook Web Calendar. During this Pre-Advise meeting a second, 30 minute Advise appointment will also be scheduled. More information about the Advising Process is available on this website.

HOW TO PROPOSE A MEETING ON OUTLOOK CALENDAR
Step #1: Once you have opened your Outlook e-mail account, click on the right side of the New button for the drop-down options. Select Meeting Request from the drop-down choices.
Note: you must use Internet Explorer. You cannot use Firefox or other Internet browsers to schedule an appointment.

Step #2: Invite your academic advisor to the pre-advise meeting by clicking Required, as shown in Diagram #2.
After clicking on Required, a new window will open. See Diagram #3 below.

Step #3: Type in your advisor’s last name.
Step #4: Once your advisor’s name appears below, double click your advisor’s name.
Step #5: After double clicking your advisor’s name, their calendar will appear. Use this screen to locate a time slot that your advisor has 15 minutes of availability shown. Use the drop down box to select different dates if needed.
After locating a time and a date on this screen, click the OK button in the lower right hand corner. Please note, you will only locate the time and date on this screen. You will select the time and date as shown in Step #8 of Diagram #4 below.

Step #6 – Enter your name and student ID number in the Subject line.
Step #7 – Enter your cell phone number here. We use this number to call you the day before to remind you of your pre-advise meeting. Only your advisor will be able to view your cell phone number. Other students will not have this ability.
Step #8 – Enter the Start Time and End Time. Enter the time and date as determined during Step #5. Remember, the pre-advise meeting only needs to be 15 minutes long.
Step #9 – Leave this checked if you would like a reminder to pop-up some time before the appointment. You can select how much time in advance you want your reminder to pop-up, such as 15 minutes or 24-hours prior to. Keep in mind that Outlook must be running for the reminder to open.
Step #10 - This is optional. However, you can enter a message here if there are particular topics you’d like to bring to your advisor’s attention prior to the meeting.
Step #11 - Once all is complete, press the Send button in the upper left hand. Your advisor will review your request and either accept or decline the proposed pre-advise meeting.
Note: Plan ahead to schedule any additional advising appointments. Advising appointments can usually be obtained soon after the request is made; however, during peak times, appointments may take longer to schedule.
