Course Repeat Policy
A course in which a grade of C- or below (C-, D+, D, D-, F, or NC) was originally earned may be repeated once for grade and earned credit replacement. The grade and credits earned for the repeated course will replace those earned in the initial attempt when calculating grade point average and credits toward degree.
Courses taken initially at UW-Whitewater may not be taken at another institution to replace the UW-Whitewater grade and credit.
All attempts of repeated courses, including the grades, remain on academic records and transcripts even though they may not be included in the GPA calculation or earned credits. Students should be aware that graduate schools and other institutions to which they might wish to transfer may not accept repeats and may include all grades in calculating GPA for admission.
Student athletes, veterans and international students should check with the appropriate UW-W school officials before repeating courses as it may affect their eligibility or financial benefits.
The full repeat policy will appear on the Registrar's Office web page under the “Policies” link .
Retention Standards
To remain in good academic standing at the University, students must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above.
Students whose semester GPA falls below a 1.0 for any term will be ineligible to return to this University and will be dismissed.
Probation
A student will be placed on academic probation if his/her academic record does not meet the retention standards (2.0 cumulative or above) set by UW-Whitewater. Notice of probationary status indicates that improvement is necessary in order to attain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and the 2.0 semester grade point average that is required.
If placed on probation, a student will not be allowed more than two consecutive semesters to be removed from probation.
Students will be removed from probation at the end of any semester in which they attain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better.
Suspension/Dismissal
A student will be suspended from the University in the following situations:
-
If a student’s semester grade point average falls below 1.0 for any semester.
-
If a student is on probation and a 2.0 semester grade point average is not attained.
-
When 2 consecutive semesters of academic probation have been allowed and the required 2.0 cumulative grade point average has not been met.
-
If a student does not meet the progression policy in any semester after being placed on progression warning.
