Warhawks win second national championship in three years
A five-hour game delay and record snowfall in Salem, Va., couldn’t stop the Warhawks from winning the 2009 national football championship. UW-Whitewater defeated Mount Union (Ohio) 38-28 in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

Alumnus creates scholarship to remember fallen soldier Amy Krueger
A Baraboo couple is setting up a scholarship to honor a Wisconsin soldier killed in the Fort Hood shootings. They never met but say their connection is strong. Tom, a 1981 UW-Whitewater psychology graduate, and his wife, Cheryl Hayes say they felt lucky after the Fort Hood shootings. Their family survived. Now they're doing what they can to make sure one of those killed continues to help people for years to come.

Summer Business Institute wins diversity award from Regents
A summer program that offers incoming minority freshmen a personal introduction to business programs at UW-Whitewater has won a prestigious diversity award from the UW System. The university's Summer Business Institute will receive the 2010 Board of Regents Diversity Award in the institution category. The $5,000 award, one of three given each year, will be presented Friday, Feb. 5, at the Regents meeting in Madison.

Student internship shows link between education and crime rate
Katelynn Crans' passing interest in individual rights led her to a unique internship at the Walworth County Jail. The UW-Whitewater public policy and administration major studied the link between GED education and recidivism rates for prisoners at the jail. She found that the further a prisoner progressed in attaining a GED, the less likely he or she was to make a repeat visit to prison.
