Distilation

Water distillation system wins in Wiscontrepreneur 100-Hour Challenge
Junior Anthony Gierczak didn't have a project in mind when he and seven other members of the UW-Whitewater Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization decided to enter the Wiscontrepreneur 100-hour Challenge. But a glass canister provided the entrepreneur major all the inspiration he needed. The Distillagua 6000 earned Gierczak an award for Most Social Value Generated at this year's competition. Gierczak and his peers represent the only team from a university other than UW-Madison to receive an award.

Students watch earthquakes as they happen
The recent earthquakes in Haiti, Chile and northern Illinois have presented incredible learning opportunities for UW-Whitewater students. In the university's geology lab, students can watch the earth shake in real time all because of one machine -- a seismograph -- calibrated to pick up vibrations thousands of miles away.

Robert Fiskum

Soccer stadium named for former coach Robert W. Fiskum
The recently renovated soccer stadium at UW-Whitewater has a new name honoring former coach Robert W. Fiskum. The "Robert W. Fiskum Stadium" naming was approved by the UW System Board of Regents at its February meeting. Fiskum served as a member of the university's intercollegiate athletics staff from 1965 until 1996.

Save the Date: Founders Day, PB Poorman PRIDE Resource Center Dedication on April 17
Founders Day: Four UW-Whitewater alumni and one couple will be honored at the 142nd Founders Day celebration Saturday, April 17 in the Old Main Ballroom in the James R. Connor University Center. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. with the presentation of awards at 12:30 p.m. Advance registration is required. Contact Katie Bastien at bastienk@uww.edu for more information.
